Great holiday

For everyone stating this ‘isn’t a 4 star hotel’ I’d ask if you paid a 4 star price? You get what you pay for and there are many aspects of Elounda Residence that I personally feel ARE four star. It is very much a budget friendly, family friendly all inclusive hotel. I’m assuming you all read the description of the hotel, where it states clearly that the hotel is set on a steep, hillside? I wasn’t surprised however It is absolutely not suitable for those who are infirm or unable to manage steps. The golf buggy is a god send and I feel the man who drives it must never sleep as he was always available to take us to our room no matter the time! Cleanliness 10/10 and I’m fussy! I can’t blame the hotel for the state of the pool side toilets when parents who were happy to drink all day and all night allowed their very young children to go to the toilets unsupervised the whole time we were there. As far as service goes the staff at this hotel including the management seem to work 24/7 and nothing is ever too much trouble. The two entertainment guys literally bounce and bound around the place they are so full of enthusiasm and they are the friendliest guys you will ever meet. I have mixed feelings about the entertainment itself. It could be much better with a little more imagination and resources, and that’s more of an observation than criticism… Food, gorgeous fresh salad every meal time. A choice of a potato dish, pasta, rice, chicken , pork or beef, vegetables, and of an evening a fish or seafood option. At least one but often more authentic Greek dishes such as mousakka. How they manage to keep the hot fresh food coming for so many is beyond me but it is plentiful. The kids love the ice cream bar and it’s colourful selection of ice creams and sauces. Breakfast was a mix of continental/English. However there was also fruit, cereal, fresh cooked pancakes. The scrambled eggs were delicious. The restaurant area is kept immaculate. It never ceased to amaze me just how hard the staff work at this hotel. All inclusive drinks.. This is the first time (and hopefully my last) that I’ve been made a cocktail with no fruit juice, but with fizzy lemonade in every single one. If you ask for fruit juice then you pay extra and the prices are steeper than the hill the hotel resides on. I normally enjoy a fruity cocktail by the pool however these luminous cheaply home made alco-pops were a disappointment for me and I barely drank at the hotel. Sadly it’s the little things like that, that lets the hotel down. It’s obvious where corners have been cut to economise but it makes the experience seem cheap and uninviting. I’ve tried to focus on the positives as above all we had a great holiday, the views are something else. Try to catch a sunset/rise and you will be mesmerised. The pool is saltwater but that suits me over chlorine any time! And you will appreciate its lovely coolness when you’ve been baking in the Cretan heat. Rooms are clean, with air con. I think but could be mistaken that the water is run on solar power? The water is Luke warm of an evening however, after the heat of the day the last thing we wanted was a hot shower, a cool one was just perfect. Bedding was crisp fresh cotton, as were the towels and even pool towels are provided for your use. Overall it’s a great hotel if you like all in-clusive, under 11s will love it but I think teenagers may get bored. I think in time this hotel will improve, it has huge potential so enjoy it now before the prices rise!

Its OK more for all inclusive kind of people.

We have just come home from the resort, the views are really beautiful and Elounda is stunning. However I do feel the hotel once was a four star but is no longer, the hills are copable and the shuttle bus is great that you can get 2 hourly, but even then it drops you at the back of elounda where you have to make the walk to the beach which is another 15mins (without paths which can be quite dangerous with a four year old) We went half board and found the resort more catered for all inclusive types that like to sit in the bar until early hours. there are no options for dinner for half board and we had to go into town for this. the drinks are also very expensive in comparrasion to the going rate. We was also once told to pay for water with our meal which seemed unethical. The staff are really friendly, room service was amazing. and everyone did try to make a real effort with my little one, the entertainers are really nice lads and try there best. The salt water in the pools irritated my little ones eyes a fair few times so some antihistimes are recommended to take. Our aircon was broken when we arrived and was fixed the next day, the rooms are very basic but we was comfortable, we didnt enjoy the food most nights and found the kids food was low quality. we also struggled to speak with reception due to basic language barriers on numerous occasions. Our first week was brilliant was very quite and layed back but then a few large rowdy groups arrived that think sitting by the pool with the kids until 1am is acceptable. Oh our room (room 15) was right next to what seemed like a sewerage room which was nice

A lovely family holiday

We arrived late Saturday night, (group of 14) had a warm welcome and was given a little welcome pack as we had missed tea. We originally had a hotel room, which was fine, had everything we needed. The next day, as a family we decided to upgrade to the three villas, which included a private pool and 247 pick up service. The good points- * the service was lovely, everyone was very friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. *the views are stunning *the food was nice and a had nice selection, we all managed to find something to eat each night. * the hotel is very “hilly” but they do have a buggy to take you to the top of the hill and also has a bus service to drop you into town. *the spa is definitely worth visiting! The bad side- * the cleanliness isn’t great, very grubby in places which has put me off considering coming here again. *The hills are off putting at times, depends on how active you are. *The shop opening hours could be longer. *lunch time menu could also be better. So really the bad points are very minor… A huge special mention must go to George & Chris , the animation team they were great fun and we enjoyed the mini- disco every night it was on. Our little ones loved them (Ben & Joe) and they were sooo good with them, really good fun! In fact, they made the holiday! Keep up the good work guys!! Overall, we had a lovely 10 days and definitely going home with smiles on our faces.
