Summer brake
Minos Palace is surrounded by water and located on demi-island. Excellent location, food and service. I loved the sheep yogurt and orange juice "squeezed by yourself" for breakfast. However, water in the pool was quite cold, more like sea temperature. Kriti itself is more expensive, then Greece. Exploring the island, the North part is for tourists and the South is for growing fruits and vegetables. If you do not afraid of risky mounting roads and prefer to skip crowds, the way from Vai beach to South will be really joyful. And yes, coffee is tasty everywhere :) Tripadviser allows to live the time range up to AUG 2019, however we visited hotel around 5 years ago.
The place to be for relaxation
We visited crete at the end of our honeymoon. By this time, we just wanted somewhere where we could relax and unwind after walking so much around Europe. Minos palace was the perfect place for this...buffet breakfast, pool all day, visit Agios Nikolaos town at night. We didnt care for exploring the island. 3 days was sufficient for us. The hotel is the perfect example of an island type resort, with an amazing pool. Bonus that it was adult only and therefore so peaceful and relaxing. Breakfast options were ample with certain meals made fresh on the spot. Our room, although had views of the sea, was a little disappointing for a 5 star resort. The bed and bedding were outdated , although it was spacious and clean. Service was friendly. Agios nikolaos is a fair way from heraklion airport so be prepared to travel over one hour by bus or taxi. We caught taxis to and from the main town at night as it would have been quite the walk. Overall a great hotel and would most likely come back.
could have been better
What should have been a special time was in fact less good than a 3 star hotel. Our superior sea view room was pokey with no window. There were no drawers for clothes, just the wardrobe, which meant we could not unpack everything. To get to the minute bathroom we had to sideways shuffle past a dressing table placed right outside the door. Very disappointing. The water was £4 a bottle which was crazy when it was 50p in the supermarket. Desserts are not lalelled and with an allergy I had to stick to fruit.
Perfect in Every Way
This hotel is perfect Rooms a good size and very clean .. no noise disruptions Worth booking the Balinese beds too Staff a little slow but so friendly nothin was any trouble Food only a 4 but yummy Highly Recommend (Taxi into town €5 in June)
Almost perfect but.....
We agree with the recent reviews. The hotel is set in wonderful grounds with beautiful views. The private beach and the little sunbathing areas were a delight. The Inblu restaurant was a pleasure to be in , we ate there a few times and had cocktails. We also had cocktails In the main bar. Our room, an upper deck ocean view was disappointing, it was tired and in need of some general maintenance, the shower over the small bath leaked leaving water all over the floor. The view wasn't ideal and not in our opinion an ocean view. Otherwise the room was satisfactory, we did ask for a mattress topper that was delivered the next day. We accepted the room as we were told there were no other rooms available when we checked in, the cool distant unhelpful receptionist said she would contact us when another room became available. We would have been prepared to pay for an upgraded room, but that option was never offered. All the staff apart from the reception staff were lovely, kind, welcoming and engaging. We feel that reception staff being the first point of contact with paying customers, should be the welcoming face of the business and unfortunately for us this was not the case, we were left feeling quite unimpressed. Even to the point where I felt unwelcome and unable to approach them to ask questions or show any concerns. How can the hotel help or remedy any isue if the customer feels unable to approach them? On check out the ladies talked between themselves and didn't engage with us, apart from asking for payment (no complaints we were expecting the extras bill) they didn't ask about our stay, they just seemed to want us gone. This is so sad, as the hotel itself is in a wonderful location and when all the rooms have been refurbished will be an ideal place to stay.
