Perfect pit-stop while biking through France

Avaliou em 12 de outubro de 2019

While it's a little off the beaten track, if you're in the vicinity do include Le Voltaire in your thinking if seeking a place to rest your head for a night or two. The hosts are most welcoming and, for a biker, there's secure garaging for your bike. The rooms are huge (at least the one I was in was) with an ensuite and loads of room for one's bits! I only ate breakfast, which was French, fresh and communal around a large original manor house dining table.

Charm, character and friendly

This is a delightful chambre d'hote with lots of character. Jo is a superb host for whom nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast is traditionally French with superb croissants and bread fresh each morning from the boulangerie just up the road and a choice of homemade jams. If you're looking for clean lines and polished finish, find a chain hotel somewhere nearby but if you want charm, character and authenticity this is the place.

En route from Saumur to La Rochelle with three friends. They were on bikes, and I was the driver. Lock-up garage for the bikes and parking space on the pavement right outside the property. Easy to find with big sign outside. Beautiful old winding staircase leads up to spacious rooms with excellent en suite facilities. Marc and Jo made us feel very welcome. After a hot day on the road, the offer of a cold beer in the garden was an unexpected bonus. They kindly booked a table for us at the Logis Hotel Le Cygne, literally next door, where we had a wonderful reasonably priced meal. Breakfast was standard French variety. Fruit juice, yoghurts, croissants, pain au chocolat, and bread with a selection of jams. Parfait ! We booked on line direct with the owners via their website, which they appreciated. Highly recommended.

Historic, friendly, amazing rooms

This is one of the most beautiful Chambres d’Hotes we have stayed in and the price is excellent. Jo is a lovely host and full of useful advice for seeing the local area. When we were visiting, the night market was going on - full of great food and a warm community atmosphere. The town is historic with plenty to keep you entertained for a day or two. It is close to lots of activities for families nearby, including the bizarrely brilliant Puy du Fou. I cannot recommend enough. We will definitely be back. They also have very good WiFi - such a rare thing to find in rural France.

What can I say? The proprietors are extremely welcoming, bed is mega comfy, fluffy towels in abundance. Toiletries smell gorgeous and are gentle on the skin. Coffee is great too! Nothing is too much for trouble. Great having bilingual hosts. What more can you ask for?
