Purloined Pillow??
On our cross country road trip, we've stayed in a wide variety of motels and hotels- some posh, many not. If possible, we prefer "park your car in front" first floor rooms. My husband asked the desk clerk for such accommodations, as steps are sometimes a challenge for me. She put us in a handicap room, which was unnecessary but fine. Oddly, the room had a bathtub, but not a walk-in shower. This would be problematic for a disabled guest. But the real issue arose an hour after checking out. The hotel desk called and said we'd be charged $25 for the pillow we took, as reported by housekeeping. Now, we don't take as much as a sugar packet from restaurants. To be accused of swiping a pillow was appalling! I don't know where their housekeeping inventory broke down, but we assured the clerk that we didn't take their pillow, and we certainly weren't paying for it! The charge was on our credit card statement, then later removed. We received no apology from the Quality Inn.
Roach Motel
Stopped on our way home from Gulf Shores. First let me say we always stay at Quality Inns and have never had a problem. Upon entering our room it looked clean although it had a funny smell in the bathroom. We should have left then, but I just used some air freshener and it was better. Couple of torn places in carpet, but everything else looked ok. I always check for bed bugs as soon as we enter the room of any hotel we stay. The mattress looked new and clean. So did the bed linens. Got in bed and as I was watching tv, felt something crawl on my arm. Raised up and saw a roach crawl across my pillow. Jumped out of bed, killed the roach. Almost went into hysterics, but my husband calmed me down. Got all our things, took our key back to the window and slammed it down on the counter and told her what happened. Did not wait for a reply. That was at 1:00 am. Drove all night got home at 7:00 am with no sleep. DO NOT stay at this Quality inn.
A roof over your head but nothing more
Internet failed to connect, printer out of toner, room key had to be re-configured before it would work, dodgy repairs in room, washed but stained sheets, inadequate breakfast. Parking was easy, outside room. Adjacent restaurant was good. We were only here to break a long drive, so it provided a room, but not a destination!
you get what you pay for
I stayed at this place last week when we had a family reunion coming into town and quite frankly i was not impressed with the place. My son got a separate room because he smoked. He had no hot water and had to use my shower, but I were told the owner came out and fixed it at midnight, so that is a plus. I have to admit other than the moldy shower curtain, some peeling paint, dirt under the mattress in between the mattress and box spring and mattress, the fuzzy picture on the cable tv, the room was clean. there is generally not much you can do about people fighting in the parking lot except call the cops(which no one did). I went to the front desk at about 5:45 am to ask for something and the double doors were bolted shut, because the clerk was apparently terrified of something. She had a nasty attitude that did not sit well with me. I think I'll pay a little more next time for a better place, that is quieter and cleaner. It's not really their fault. the quality inn chain is lowering their standards all across the country. I've stayed at several quality inns across the country and it's all the same everywhere you go. Buildings are old or patched, low water pressure, sarcastic clerks, or whatever. They are unfortunately going the way of several other hotels that were a wonderful place to stay 20 or 30 years ago. I guess people just don't care anymore. the daytime clerk Bonnie was the only real bright spot this whole stay. She was very helpful and smiled a lot. She is a credit to her job. Maybe the others could learn from her positive attitude.
