We have just returned from a four night stay. Very clean and comfortable room, really good food. Staff friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble for landlord Alan. We look forward to staying there again Aldbourne is a lovely village and The Crown is full of character
Great pub, good beer selection..

Hi, Stayed here for one night. Pub very popular, good beer selection at reasonable price. Good breakfast and a friendly crew.
Only minor issues were temporary chef, (new one on way and I'd wait til he arrives before i'd eat there again in the evening), no hot water in room (electrician on way apparently) and no ventilation in shower/toilet...
New and improved

It's been about 2 years since I was last here and what a change. The restaurant area has been upgraded, white tablecloths, coaster and mats. There are a couple of less tables than before but this just makes it more comfortable and less crowded. The menu is limited but that in no way affects the quality or quantity. Alan has a young chef at the moment who produces beautifully flavoured curry on the specials menu , highly recommended! The desserts are wonderful, so even if you choose not to stay here, the restaurant is well worth a visit. The outside patio area is now under over with patio heaters and plenty of seating. Can't wait for our next visit.

Called in here today for some teas and coffees, and Sunday lunch, this is an excellent village pub, a very characterful old building, friendly and helpful staff, and superb food, good quality roast beef
Creepy toilet signs

Went here recently, having been lots in the past and rather disappointed that they are trying to catch you out on a sneaky service charge.
Food was up to its normal standard and very ncie (slightly bumped up the prices but expected after the covid dip). What I don’t agree with is the 10% service charge.
Having read other reviews and the replies, I disagree with the ‘we normally put at your discretion’. If this is the case, DONT put it on the menu at all. The service was not good enough for a tip. It was average, the glasses had clear lipstick marks, there was just no attention to detail. I am happy to tip 10% when it is warranted and this was not!
There was also a very strange sign outside the toilets. I understand that in 2021 we need to account for gender neutral and non binary but a sign saying ‘choose your toilet and take your chances’ is not the way to go about this. That sounds like you may take your chances by going into the ladies loos but good luck to you…..just state they are unisex loos or remove the ‘ladies’/‘gents’ signs. It was a bit creepy sounding.
Overall nice food but I don’t think I’d be going back anytime soon.
