The most noticeable thing from the pictures is that the hotel looks grand. However, closer up it is evident that the rooma are tired looking and in need of tlc. The finishes to the room needed refurbishment and could have been cleaner. There was no hot water on one day of the stay. The linen was changed every day. The hotel lobby and bar area looks like it has been refreshed. The staff were great and the breakfast and evening meal was delicious. Food and drinks were charged to the room but I would rather have paid upfront. Other colleagues have reported good things. However, I am not prepared to settle for a lower than usual standard of quality.

Upon arrival quite bemused at the greeter’s request to inform the receptionist of my arrival ( ? ) even though I confirmed the payers full name, she could’ve been a bit more courteous & agreeable, especially seeing as the room was empty. There seemed to be more staff than punters. I confirmed my name to the receptionist & took myself into the ( empty ) bar, eventually ordered a drink to wait for friends. The place is lacking in atmosphere, and so this continued into the state room where afternoon tea was served. We were asked to choose our sandwich preferences & teas. Could not order my favourite smoked salmon unless I paid for a £10 glass of champagne, I cannot recall what the waiter said about the prosecco, whether that was included or not. The cake stand arrived ( they were hardly rushed off their feet ) and to be honest, nothing to get excited about. Bread seemed a little soggy, and no clotted cream with the fruit scones ? Thought that was a given. Pastries were average, my friend enjoyed the sausage rolls apparently…. …. overall, in terms of quality and service, the three of us agreed it was disappointing and would not be back anytime soon. To top it all, the waiter came over and said he would have to ‘throw us out’ right there and then, to get ready for the pending dinner service ( this was two hours in and we were the only ones there ) I mean honestly, a suggestion to retire to the rather dull bar would’ve gone down better ! I know this was a lovely Hotel to visit, not so long ago. I wonder if the American guests who were present on the day enjoyed it. Also, the place looked grubby, and the windows were dirty. Would not recommend this place.

Booked for dinner 22 June. Dining room from Titanic's sister ship SS Olympic is stunning. Food bland and tasteless. Staff desperately in need of training. Hotel is scruffy in some areas Extremely disappointed

We took breakfast here (£14.95 pp) to have a long look at the Olympic suite. The room is dazzling - a wonderful experience. Pre-booking is direct with the hotel rather than online but was straightforward. On the day, all the staff were very helpful and welcoming. It has lost a star because the food was average - small portions, a bit tepid - not bad - but not up to the standard of the room and service. We visited as non-residents so cannot comment about the hotel itself.

Had a comfortable stay at the White Swan. It’s in a great location in Alnwick. The room was spacious and had plenty of storage. The breakfast was yummy. The real star is Rachel. She went the extra mile and made our night away extra special! Top customer service. Will definitely stay again if we are visiting Alnwick.
