Funky and charming

We stayed for 3 nights for our Antwerp city break. The studio was funky and charming - very retro chic - we loved the sheep mural on the wall and the comfy cord sofa (very 70's!) The bed was comfy and it was blissfully quiet. The bathroom was a little small and there was nowhere to really put anything in there, but the shower was very powerful (with a rain head option) and there was plentiful hot water. You actually check in at the cafe which is next door on the square, and there is no room service as such - someone came in one day and left us some fresh towels so this isn't for you if you want the full hotel experience. There is a little kitchenette but we just ate out - there are loads of great eating and drinking options round about. The staff in the cafe were lovely and helpful and we had breakfast there a couple of times We enjoyed this part of the city - it felt more local but it was still a short walk to the old town
Nice little hotel

We had the studio and it was really nice! Great deco and we had a seperate sitting area n spacious bedroom n shower area. The staff were helpful n nice. Great location too! A lot of eateries nearby n a drinking bar across the road. It's close by to many shopping street as well. Will definitely stay again.
Worst service ever

This is not a review for hotel, but for their café. I have been there several times for coffee this winter and it was always empty in the morning, but latte was good. So was the banana cake. But this Sunday, sun came out finally and we wanted to have our coffee in the sun. The Soul has a big terrace in the square and almost all tables were occupied (30-35 people) but we found our seats. To cut the story short, we waited to get our coffee 40 MINUTES!! And we were not the only ones. Waitress was completely unorganized, walking around, carrying cups one at the time, guy who was making coffee inside stood behind the bar sometimes doing nothing, and there was a third person who prepared breakfasts. On our complaints we didn't get polite apology, but sentence: We are busy, other people are waiting too. We saw people just leaving place without being served. Anyway, too bad for nice and nicely positioned place as it is The Soul to have such bad service, but I do not blame there personnel, but the owner who put them to work without knowing their skills.
beautiful rooms, perfectly located, but some negative aspects...

For our five-day-stay in Antwerp we decided to book a studio apartment by “The Soul”. As the apartments are located in a normal house, there’s no such thing like a reception. You have to check in at the “Soul Café” at the street corner. Always friendly people there! :-) When we got into our room, we noticed that the smoke detector was permanently beeping. Obviously the battery was low. We told the very nice guy who was working downstairs in the café and he helped us out with a ladder and brought the detector down. ;-) The studio we booked was really nice, fancy and beautifully furnished. The bed was super comfy. The bathroom was clean and modern. But we think the room needs a bit more care… The closet looked like it would fall apart right away and there was a bit mold inside it. The curtains were torn and you could find these small attachment-thingies everywhere. For us, who love to cook fresh even during vacation, the kitchen was not very well equipped. We missed a good knife, some more cutlery, some bigger and better pans and pots, a cutting board, and there was no drain plug so cleaning up after cooking was quite an adventure. A real positive aspect was the little balcony we had, with a beautiful view over the roundabout with the big sculpture and all the cafés and bars. The location of “The Soul” is perfect for tourists. You are near the center and most of the interesting things to see are within walking distance. There’s even a huge place nearby (Waalsekaai / Vlaamsekaai) that provides free parking! Be aware of the fact that the apartment could be a problem for light sleepers. There’s always much traffic outside, and you can hear everything that happens in the hallway of the house, especially at night. The roomservice - well, let’s call it a catastrophe. We rarely saw them, and WHEN we saw them, they often just gave us some new towels and toilet paper. They always came quite early, so we were still in the room, but they didn’t come back, even after we left the room for the rest of the day. There were days when the room service didn’t come at all. Within our five-day-vacation our room has been cleaned on only ONE day. Our waste bin was full and smelly at the end of our stay, so we had to put the full plastic bag downstairs somewhere in the hallway, hoping that somebody of the service staff would take it. The first day, when we arrived in our room, we checked the beautiful little balcony, only to discover a cup full of cigarette butts outside next to the balcony door. It stayed there during our whole vacation. Dear “The Soul”, your rooms are comfy and beautiful, but PLEASE improve your room service! :-( Because of all these little negative aspects, I can only give 3 points in my review…
Great new location to discover

As many have already attested, very nicely decorated rooms. The sitting area is a nice place to sit and read a book or look down over the place. Both the couch and the bed was comfortable. Room 103 came equipped with a kitchenette (microwave, fridge, stove top) and a shower. Marnixplaats looks to be an "it' place to be for there were crowds of people drinking in the different shops in the area (it is in fact a large roundabout). I like the fact it is not in the center of Antwerp but just outside. We went to the Lucy Chang next door which I highly recommend for the food and atmosphere were great and the staff just super (they speak dutch/english/french). For eating, there are also lots of places along the Waalsekaai/Vlaamsekaai which is about a 10 minute walk from there. It's also where we parked. The only downside for me was that I did not a good night's sleep because of the coming and goings of other people in the hotel were waking me up each time. A good set of earplugs may then be in order for light sleepers. My partner had the large breakfast which was croissant, bread, jam, greek(?) yoghurt accompanied by fruits and granola and a coffee. Just perfect. I opted for the croissant, bread and jam breakfast. The hosts were great and friendly. HOTEL LOCATION on gps/google map is WRONG. It is the white building right next to Lucy Chang.
