Had problem with key de-activating but otherwise nice stay

Key deactivated 3 times during our stay but everything else was good. Nice size room, a little humid, but cleared once A/C was regulated. Pool and hot tub were good and parking near room was always available! Can't beat the location close to the beach!

ROOMS are average for an old hotel, pictures look better than in person. Security is a major issue and management staff. LOWER ROOMS have open, non-gated patios that are open to the walkway. Anyone can stop and sit on your patio, we had random people sitting on our patio and were blamed for them and threatened to be kicked out. Rio has zero security other than a staff (male) dressed in shorts & white T-shirt with no hotel affiliation on him wondering the grounds, looking through your windows and making threats when confronted. We brought these issue up to management and they ignored our concerns and complaints. We left after the 1st night (of 3 scheduled). Also this allows 18 and older to rent rooms so young teenagers use this hotel for Parties and under age drinking.
Great stay for the family.

We stopped here on our way from Death Valley as a midway point when we were traveling up the Pacific coast highway. What a great location and hotel this was. The staff at check-in was amazing. Our hotel room was clean and spacious. We briefly jumped in the pool after swim in the ocean at the beach. The pool area was great. Just a short drive away from Santa Cruz and the boardwalk.
I wish it was better...

I stayed here for three nights with some friends, all of whom I hiked with in the nearby Forest of Nisene Marks. A friend had raved about the property, so we expected better service and a more luxurious stay. When I checked in I received a map of the property along with a description of an "expanded continental breakfast served in the banquet room 7:00AM-10:00AM." The next morning I found the banquet room locked at 7AM with no mention of where I could find the expanded breakfast. I checked again after 30 minutes, and then headed over to the office, where I found several others waiting for coffee to be brewed. The coffee didn't arrive until 8:15. The "expanded breakfast" was a paper bag containing a small bottle of water, an apple, a granola bar, and a cellophaned package of a small, store bought sweet roll. There were also packages of instant oatmeal at the coffee station. Luckily, I had brought my own yogurt and granola, which helped fuel me during our hike that day.
I guess I just expected more considering the room price, having stayed in other hotels during the pandemic that were so much better. The rooms weren't bad - just okay - and it was reasonably clean and comfortable. More than anything, I was just disappointed.
Cynthia should not be working in customer service!!!

I stayed at this hotel on June 7, 2021 and will not be returning. When checking out I requested a copy of my receipt be emailed. Cynthia couldn't do this but said she would mail one. It's been over a week. I still haven't received a receipt. I called the same day I checked out realizing I had left a few items behind, indicated my room number, and again Cynthia told me she'd leave a note for someone and call me back. No call back after a couple of days I checked in again. No update per Cynthia, but would leave another note and call me. Today is June 15th and I called again and guess who I got- Cynthia. No news and nothing has been done. How hard is it to leave a note for housekeeping to tell them on the day of check out the room I stayed in belongings were left behind and to note this and place with lost & found so I could pick up on my next round. If Maggie, GM you're reading this please note your customer service sucks and there are too many properties that are available in the area, are nicer, more updated, and less expensive. I've stayed here more than a dozen times and will NEVER return. Lousy way to operate a business!!! And, I'm tired of the Covid excuse. Guess what, others are thrilled to be open and appreciate having return customers. Your property has fallen way short. Get some better follow through people at your front desk. I've done the hotel desk job in my earlier days. It's not that hard people.
