Very good hotel and close to I40. Clean and good room. Some limited packed breakfast available in the morning. very friendly staffs.
More than I expected for the money!
This review is overdue. We checked in for several days on Sept. 19, 2020. It was our anniversary and the first vacation for us in several years. It was very clean without smelling like cleanser. The queen bed was super comfortable and had four great pillows. The AC/Heating worked very well. Our room was small but we only ever use a room for showers and sleeping. We were there to sitesee and check out the restaurants, not roost in the room. TV was a nice size, WIFI, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker worked great what more do you need? Passed on breakfast we always do, did I mention the restaurants? The staff was very friendly and helpful. Yes some paint touch-ups are needed but if people didnt slam the doors open with luggage carts...Anyway a great place to stay & stretch your vacation dollars for sightseeing & restaurants. Will definitely stay again.
A Place to Hang Your Hat
If you want convenient location, comfortable facility, economical and basic accomodations this is the place! My travel is usually for the geography and local attractions which are abundant in Asheville. So a clean, comfortable place to hang my hat at the end of the day doing the tourist thing is all that is needed--Brookstone Lodge is just such a place!
Comfy rooms. Good value for the money.
My 7 year old daughter and I stayed here for 4 nights as part of a 5 day "Asheville escape". The pricing was reasonable considering the time of year and several conveniences. The first one is the location. The Brookstone Lodge is located right off of I-40 coming into Asheville. It's less than a 10 minute drive to the Biltmore Estate and just a little longer to reach downtown. The Blue Ridge Parkway is literally one exit away as well. The bad news is there's not much closeby in regards to food or shopping. No gas stations nearby either. There's an Ingle's grocery store that's an 8 minute drive and a Subway just down the street. Not exactly restaurant row but the aforementioned conveniences outweigh that. The property was billed as a budget hotel but seemed to hover closer to mid range category in some regards. Check in was simple. I was greeted by a friendly man who quickly got us into the system and handed us our key cards, explaining the usual items and detailing policies. In fact, everyone we encountered was friendly and said hello. There was hand sanitizer available near the elevators and reminders to wear masks and abide by social distancing guidelines. There seemed to be a single elevator for the whole hotel. This was only a nuisance twice while people are coming and going in the morning but one couple on our floor were griping about it. Parking seemed to be adequate but the good spots fill up the later it gets. By 10PM nearly all the spots were taken yet the hotel appeared deserted. Guests were practicing social distancing in part by not cramming elevators and everyone did a good job of wearing masks including housekeeping. The grounds were clean and tidy and the hotel looked nice from the outside. There was an indoor pool we had all to ourselves on a few occasions. It was a little cold on arrival but the temperature was a bit more reasonable the day before we checked out. One concern was the cleaning agent that was visibly on the surface of the water. I didn't know if it was chlorine or what but at least it didn't sting. Just had a strong smell. Our room was more than satisfactory for the rate paid. The beds were pretty comfortable and we really appreciated 4 soft pillows per bed. There was obvious signs of wear over the years but this doesn't bother me. Our room was clean and that was more important. If things like chipped paint or worn fixtures upset you, please look elsewhere. The thermostat/fan was easy to manage. It was warm in early October so coming back to an ice cold room after sweaty Biltmore adventures was great. There's a small coffee maker that brews single servings. Bring a bag of your favorite coffee grounds, a mug, some filters, and bottled water. Poor some grounds into a filter, fold like an envelope and brew. Don't use the hotel water from the sink, it doesn't taste great and neither will your coffee. The floors are not carpeted so be take note. This also means you'll be able to hear the people above you walking around. There was one obnoxious guest who must've weighed 400 pounds pacing back and forth on our last night there. Depending on where your room is located you may be able to hear the traffic from Roberts Road and I-40. Bring a noise maker or ear plugs if this is a concern. The bathroom was adequate. The shower pressure was fine and the water was nice and hot every time I needed it to be. I wasn't impressed with the shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion, and small bars of soap however. I would consider replacing these with something else. The towels had some pretty good wear on them and some were downright stained. This includes the towels at the pool as well. One of them had a hole. Another had a stubborn red stain that looks like It just wouldn't wash out. My advice would be to ditch these and get some nicer ones. The maids didn't come into our room once during our stay so can't comment about that. Probably due to COVID. This property uses large Samsung UHTVs; a sign that you've chosen a healthy hotel chain. The remote in our room (302) didn't always work properly but I use a trusty remote app on my smart device anyway. TIP: You can watch downloaded movies on a thumb drive by inserting into the side of the TV and choosing videos. This can be a life saver for those with small kids regardless of where you're staying. Disney, HBO, and some other channels were not a part of their cable lineup, however. It seemed odd to me but we brought our own movies. The internet didn't require a password and was plenty fast when I needed it to be. My only gripe was having to reconnect manually each time after returning to the hotel. I'd have to "forget network" , choose it, go to the sign-in screen, tap the button at the bottom, and then I was on my way. I had to do this for several devices including my daughters' tablet several times a day. For some reason my media play didn't like this configuration and we were unable to use it. I would prefer an auto-connect option like Holiday Inn Express in which you enter your room number or some other form of validation to stay connected for the duration of your stay. Breakfast was a low point for us and probably the only reason this review doesn't get 5 stars. Like many hotels, this property has elected to go with a bagged breakfast consisting of packaged muffins, cheese danishes, oatmeal packets, fruit, yogurt, juice, and coffee. The milk was out of order and a bit of an inconvenience since we brought cereal. There was none available for purchase either. My daughter and I both found the OJ pretty terrible and had to spit it out. It appears the property used to offer hot breakfast before the pandemic. It would've been great if they got creative like some other hotels and found a way to make it work instead of taking the all too easy "COVID excuse." That part was pretty disappointing. As a whole it was a pleasant stay. We'd probably choose them again if it were just the two of us but my wife who is a frequent business traveler would be having none of it. Thank you to all the pleasant staff that did their part in making our visit a comfortable one.
