A Failing Hotel
When we booked in June we checked and the reviews were good. I don't know what happened but there was no way that this was 4 star. The only redeeming features were the three wonderful staff, Giuseppe, Sayeed and Veronica and without them, we would have considered walking out. The rooms are tired and although clean, I could not see the need for a rubber sheet on the bed. If I become incontinent I will let hotels know. There was only one rubbish bin in the whole room - in the bathroom. The shower curtain was too short. The hairdryer was like a light breeze. The public areas were unkempt and I did not once see the outside paths being swept. There were broken hammocks outside on the lawn. When wanting to sit round the pool no staff helped with umbrellas or sunbeds. The area was rarely tidied and I did not see the pool being cleaned. One night there was a storm and subsequent power cut (not the fault of the hotel of course) but the next night the outside lights remained out and guests were having to walk around with their mobile phones in torch mode. But the real and major let down was the food which was totally unacceptable. There was very little choice at either breakfast or dinner - both buffet style. The food which was there was repetitive and was not kept hot. For a country that makes its own wine, bar prices were outrageously high. This hotel is quite remote and there are no restaurants in walking distance so we reluctantly put up with the food. An example is that one evening the menu advertised pork with potatoes. No sign of potatoes and when asked, the restaurant "manager" shrugged her shoulders and said that they didn't have any. It was obvious that some of their pasta dishes contained leftovers from the night before. Very worrying as far as food hygiene is concerned! All in all a bad hotel experience and I could not recommend this hotel to anyone.
2 stars
My husband and I were there for 10 days in October 2019. Good sea view and Etna-view from breakfast-terrace. Perfect coffee Good room cleaning Bad NO BEACH AT ALL!!! On google maps the road to this hotel is going throw the dirt road and IT IS CLOSED with the barrier, so mind it in case you will rent a car.It took us not so long to find the normal road, but it was not very good greeting of Venus sea garden. Breakfast was so poor and not tasty, cold becon and burnt omelet every day. There was a bar in the room(2 bot. of water) and it wasn’t written anywhere that it is not included. That’s why there was a surprise-bill at the end of staying. The furniture was very old ,flimsy and creaking so it’s a problem when someone is sleeping and you need to open the locker. Sicily is really a good place for a couple to stay and to travel, but next time I will book an apartment or villa (the prize is cheaper ,the service is THE SAME)
Lovely stay
We have just had ten nights here for the first part of our honeymoon. Can't fault the staff, always friendly, helpful and professional. Room was great with a lovely view, bed a bit firm for me but there were blankets that I used as a bit of padding (but I am really fussy with my beds). Yes the steps to the rocks were destroyed in a storm but there is a small cove next to the hotel that you can certainly snorkel from. Food was always good quality even if it didn't necessarily always match what was on the menu card! All in all a calm, relaxed feel to the place.
There is no beach access or bathing platform at this hotel. Do not be deceived by the official photographs!
We booked this hotel through Voyage Prive and had a very disappointing stay. We wished to swim and snorkel in the sea but, contrary to the photographs and descriptions of this hotel's facilities, the steps down to the beach and the bathing platform have been completely destroyed and there is no way of getting down to the sea. The sea garden has also been removed. This happened over a year ago and yet Voyage Prive and Hotel Venus took no action to amend their marketing material. Many customers have arrived at the hotel this summer expecting to be able to swim in the sea and have been very disappointed. The rest of the hotel is okay but due to the absence of beach access the pool area is very crowded with broke sun beds. The tennis courts, advertised on some websites, are also completely wrecked. Not sure what has been going on, but definitely one to miss.
Horrible value, avoid this hotel
Secluded hotels are great when on-site amenities offer comfort, stimulation, good food & service, but this hotel offers very few. For the price we paid (200€/night with breakfast only), we were so disappointed and had to share before others are let down too. - Hotel is absolutely tiny. Pool & restaurant are about it. Stairs down to the "beach" are in ruins. - Only 1 restaurant (pool bar advertised as "grill" but it's incredibly basic, overpriced, sandwiches and salads; and you can only eat at the tables, not around the pool). - Limited a la carte menu (4 choices per course), and was same every night (reasonable prices though). You're sort of "forced" to eat here as they provide written instructions at check-in that no external food or drinks are allowed in the rooms (not informed prior to check-in). You are FINED if they find food in your room €400! This was bizarre.. (We had a bottle of wine from a friend's winery that we were not allowed to consume in the room, had to trash). - The suites are spacious, very well designed, but the a/c is poorly positioned to only cool the bottom floor (heat rises!) so the upper floor w/ bed is very hot/stuffy all night. - Pool floor was not clean, a little gross, limited deck chairs - No efforts to bring guests together despite being so isolated. - Child cots are €20/night.. each! - Advertised as family-friendly hotel, but there are stairs everywhere, no way to bring a child down to the nice rocky cliffs (safer than it sounds!) if they aren't really walking well yet, breakfast has few pieces of fruit, etc. - Spiders and ants are everywhere. Truly everywhere. Overall, this hotel seems very much overlooked by the owners. They plopped a building down, put up some trendy deco, and didn't think through any of the details that make a hotel truly comfortable, memorable, and make you want to return.
