Inconsiderate and Rude

Avaliou em 24 de agosto de 2021

The owner of the B&B let down the business. On arrival my partner walked to what what she thought was the entrance, to be leaped at by a very large dog which was taller than her on its hind legs. I approached to help her, holding a 2 year old in my arms, the dog charged me and leaped up my back, it then circled us. My child wet herself as she was scared. The owner of the business explained that we had approached the wrong door and this was the dogs area. No apology, no suggestion to take the dog inside, only blame that it was our fault. I’ve no doubt the owner will defend this and suggest we were in the wrong place, however if there is ever a risk that a customer may accidentally venture into this area then you need to ensure they are safe. I later asked if my daughter could use the swings at the rear of the B&B to be told no as the dog was outside. It would have been appropriate to put the dog inside and allow the child to use the swings. However at this point our daughter was too scared to leave the room anyway. The owner also seemed to imply that our daughter was older than 2 year old. Stating that we’d booked a “baby” and our daughter was large for her age. Not true, but a very rude insinuation. At breakfast my partner and I were given one croissant each with jam. I asked for an extra croissant for my daughter, to be told No. The owner only bought two and didn’t think that a “baby” would want a croissant. To have one croissant is embarrassing, to not feed the child is just plain rude. On top of this the cat, well I assume it was the cat, left a decapitated mouse on our room doorstep with its guts trailing. The bed was comfy.

Peaceful setting close to the coast

We stayed one night in a huge family room. There were only three of us but the room had five beds. Decor was typically French with lots of local information available in the room. The room was ideal for a family with an excellent powerful hot shower, always a plus point! The owner was very pleasant and served breakfast with fresh croissants. For exploring La Coupole and Eperlecques WW2 rocket sides this was perfect, only 12 miles away. I would be happy to return.

Peacful and charming

“Very convenient for the chunnel in a quiet area just off the Peage. Lovely characterful property, if you want a bland chain hotel don't look here, if you want peace and a quaint setting stay here. The property is just down the road from the village Of Ardres with a number of good restaurants. Lovely breakfasy with homemade jams and fresh breads .”

Charming establishment

Like most of the other English reviewers, we were just passing through for one night before getting ferry home. It's a pity really as the petit Tambour would make a nice base away from Calais to use to explore the area. The owner's web site photos give a good picture. The rooms all appear to be fairly basic in that they reflect the heritage of the place - original(?) tiled floor, small built-in wardrobe in recess beside the chimney (in our room) hand painted furniture - all done by Agnes including the petit Tambour motif on the furniture, tiles and crockery. I really liked the fact that the rooms did not have televisions and so you are unlkely to be disturbed by inconsiderate neighbours. Breakfast was excellent and almost without end! Agnes does speak a little English and understands a little more, so with my 50 year-old French we got by OK. She was very helpful and very pleasant. My only problem was thanks Booking.Com they never told me that reception is normally only open between 17.30 and 19.00, and they did not pass on my 16.00 ETA. The owners' web site does make this clear and they will be there if someone tells them! We will certainly come back.

Stopover before pushing South

Great welcome, very comfortable and warm room in freezing February. Bathroom, bed, furnishings and decor really tasteful and typical of French farmhouse. Breakfast excellent with a real farmhouse atmosphere. We will return again when next we head to south of France or to Alps.
