Rural, Relaxing and Rewarding

The taxi driver finally found it with his dashboard GPS after picking us up from the rail station. We had left from Prague that morning and were grateful for the technology to get us directly to our rather remote hotel without having to pull over to ask other locals if they had heard of it. It's out there... Although we stayed only to conduct family ancestor research in nearby Sponheim, Landhotel's bar, restaurant and front and rear patios are supportive complements to its conference facilities. Taxis into town - or to Sponheim - are a phone call away by the front reception. Be aware that there is no lift to upstairs rooms and luggage must be, well, lugged...

Peace and quite

We spent 3 nights here and right from the start found the staff to be friendly and very willing to help. The room was clean and well set out with plenty of room. The location is great for peace and quite. Its only 10 minute walk to town through a lovely wooded area or some stairs further on if you dont want to walk the trails. The only draw back we found in the room was no ability to make a coffee or tea in the room other than that we enjoyed our stay. We would easily stay here again.

The Hotel is in a beautiful location with fields and nature all around you. The car park and the wifi are free. The room was sold to me with a Queen bed. The room was so small no other bed would fit. A garden view it said. If I stood on a chair I could see out of the small window onto the tops of the trees. The room was very claustrophobic and dated. The weather in the evening was beautiful. It was a good job as you have to walk at least 15 mins. to the restaurant which seems to be part of the hotel. The breakfast was very poor. The receptionist was not very friendly. The restaurant where we had our evening meal had wonderful views of the town. The staff there were very friendly. The meal was good.

Nice evening

I picked this hotel as a stop between visiting southern and northern Germany. I wanted a place out of the town and with fresh air. This place definitely fulfilled my wish. Due to traffic our arrival was delayed 2 hours. Despite that our room was all ready and we were quickly accommodated. The beds are comfortable. The bath was large, and the area is quiet. We had a wonderful sleep. As the location is on the top of a hill there are plenty of walking paths and the opportunity to star gaze at night. Breakfast in the morning is simple, but adequate. Be sure to follow the signs to the breakfast room or ask, as our room was a long way away and that delayed our morning meal.

Never again!

My wife and I are seasoned travellers, and we took a chance by booking the Landhotel Kauzenberg in Bad Kreuznach in stead of the much more luxurious and better-known Parkhotel, even though they were priced the same, namely € 115,= a night. Main reason was the good reviews the Landhotel received in Tripadvisor, and we just wanted to try something different. Well, we sure got something different, but it was not exactly what we had expected. One thing for sure: the Landhotel cannot live up to its 4-star Tripadvisor rating, and quality/price ratio is a bad one as well. We also had some very bad experiences with the front desk, and we had the worst two night sleeps ever. A brief description of what went on. When we entered the hotel we were offered an ice-cold greeting by a grim-looking young lady at the front desk who clearly had never heard of the concept of a warm welcome before. We were told that the hotel shuts its doors at 10.30 pm, and that you would have to use the side door night entrance with your own key to get in, since there would be no staff after that hour. That struck us as rather peculiar, since the hotel has 47 rooms, and not having any staff at all in a hotel that size to take care of its guests in the evening just didn’t seem right. To continue, our hotel room was not equipped with airco, and in order to get the room a bit cool (and less stuffy smelling), we opened our room window (actually, the only window, a small one in a rather dark room). And yes, after 11 pm, the late guests were constantly pouring in, using the late-night door right under our room. At 12 in the evening, at 1 in the morning, at 2, the obviously intoxicated guests rolled in, roaring with laughter, smoking their cigarettes outside, enjoying a loud after-evening talk. We were constantly forced to shut our only window to keep the noise and the cigarette smoke outside our room (not that it helped much). Since we somehow had anticipated that this would happen, we had already in the pre-evening asked our non-friendly front-desk lady if she could possibly get us an alternative room at the back side of the hotel. Her only reply was that the hotel was sold out, and that if we had any complaints about the evening noise, then we could just reach somebody at a telephone number listed at the front desk. As if that would help: calling somebody all night long each time a noisy late-night group of guests entered the hotel (this was going on constantly!). The second night was a repetition of the first night, but then even worse: my wife and I literally got no sleep at all. When we checked out, I made my complaint to the ice-lady at the front desk. She did not even bat an eye and told me that I should have called the evening number to have made my complaint then. Astonishing! No excuses, no warm-felt sympathy for the endurances undergone by a paying traveler staying in her hotel. Just no feelings what so ever. When I told her that I was upset by the whole experience, and that this was one of my most horrific stays in a hotel ever, and that I would never come here again, she just wished me to have a nice weekend. Absolutely astonishing. For the rest, I can say that the hotel has no facilities whatsoever, just simple room and board. Inter-room noise is also clear (certainly not sound proof). Breakfast seems extensive, but is actually just a whole load of simple and basic stuff with nothing luxurious to offer at all. Breakfast had to be run by one (!) person, having a hard time to cope with all of the breakfast customers. Certain claims made by the hotel are also simply not true: a so-called simple 10-minute walk down to the centre of town, turns out to be a treacherous walk down an unlighted and steep mountain path. The hotel reviews in Tripadvisor suggest that the hotel has a restaurant: this is not true, you have to walk down an unlighted path some 500 meters cross a field to a restaurant that apparently has some ties to the hotel. Our stay here was a nightmare, and this very basic and clearly under-staffed hotel made to us the impression of being hardly more than a slighty upgraded version of a youth hostel that certainly cannot live up to anything near its current 4-star Tripadvisor rating. Avoid by all means, unless you like enjoy paying a lot for very little.
