They absolutely do not care about you.

Disclaimer: Before writing this review I emailed the hotel. I also sent them the message to their Facebook Messenger. (see screenshots as proof) That was 7 days ago. I also tried to resolve it and brought up my concerns with the staff while we were there. Nothing was done and I have received no response. I notice management seems to respond to negative reviews on this site, typical of a company that only cares about their public image, not actually making people happy. So here goes. Note that whatever their PR response is going to be, it is going to be rubbish.
Small things first..... They have some super racist dolls in the restaurant. See photos. Secondly, they are in a national park, we were not allowed to bring any plastic into the park..... however they are too lazy to wash dishes so they use only plastic cups, lids, and straws for all their drinks. See photos. Gross.
Here is what this place is all about: PR and Social Media. That is all. Guests actual enjoyment is of zero concern, as long as their selfies look good. There are signs all over the hotel nagging guests to share their photos on social media and telling them how to tag the photos (see photos). This is selfie and social media tourism gone mad. A world where it looks good from the outside even though everyone there is actually miserable.
See their perfect Instagram photos? This is all they care about. They are all lies and they make guests miserable and bored to death in order to get the most social media tags. This involved dragging the guests out into the middle of a lake on a fake "morning safari" and LITERALLY FORCING them to pose for photos for ONE HOUR. They straight up lied to us. Forced us to wake up at 6am for this trip. It was included in the room price. They told us “go see animals”.
In reality there was zero attempt to see animals. My blood boiled with fury as we stopped, not once, not twice, but THREE times to let every single person on the boat take hundreds of photos of themselves. THREE TIMES. Each time, sitting in the boat, in the middle of the lake with nothing to look at, for 10-15 minutes per photo session. The guide encouraging people to take more and more selfies. Stupid vapid, vain idiots who need a thousand photos of their faces every day. The guide acting as photographer to take not to take one, two, or three photos of each person but to take 20 or 30 photos EACH. “neung, song, sam!” (1, 2, 3,) Over and over. While we just sat there. Furious.
When we refused to participate in this disgusting vain madness, we were hated. We were pressured, we were guilted. “Come here to take photo” she said. We came here for the nature. We came here for animals. We came here for the environment. To use our EYES. Not to take photos of our stupid faces that we see in the mirror every day. We do not care about selfies and because of that, the hotel does not care about us. It was like an episode of Black Mirror.
¬We stayed there for 2 nights. Huge mistake. There is nothing to do there other than take photos. It is against national park rules to put your feet on the land. You can’t go hiking or anything. You just have to sit on the floating raft. This was unbearable for 48 hours. Because we refused to participate in the selfie tours, we were not invited to participate in any other activities. Even though there should have been at least 4 tours included in our room price, we could not go on any of them. We heard boats leaving, confused, looked out our window …. Other guests were heading out to do stuff, we were not invited.
You can swim in the water but you are REQUIRED by law to wear a life jacket….. which sucks …. And makes swimming impossible. All their Instagram photos of attractive people in bikinis swimming are a lie, because that is illegal. Photos of beds on the edge of the raft, people waking up to luxurious breakfast on a floating bed at the edge of paradise? Complete lies. Total photoshop jobs. This is not something that has ever happened at this trap of a hotel.
The router for the wifi for the entire hotel was located in our room … yep…. So several times a day staff had to come in to reset the router. One time a man just walked into our room for no reason. We were half dressed in bed, he didn’t knock, he ignored the “do not disturb” sign on the door and just walked right in.
The restaurant plays horrific loud pop music. We go for the nature and are subjected to hours of Ed Sheeran. We asked them to turn it down several times. Bored guests and their children sit around the restaurant area watching videos on their phones at full volume without headphones in. The staff also do this. 3 times we asked wait staff to please turn off the volume on their phone. One woman was literally watching Thai soap operas at full volume while she worked the pancake station at breakfast. They DO NOT GIVE A ****
If you can’t get a private villa and your only option is one of the rooms above the restaurant DEAR GOD DO NOT DO IT!!! These rooms have the thinnest walls and the loudest doors. All night we had the neighbours talking and slamming doors to go to the bathrooms WHICH ARE LOCATED OUTSIDE THE ROOMS. Yep. Like being in college, there are shared outdoor bathrooms. So 15 times a night other guests would loudly open their bedroom door, then slam it, then rustle keys, then open a bathroom door, then slam it, then leave the bathroom, then slam the door, then open their bedroom door then slam it. …. All night…. No sleep.
In the mornings, at 6am on the dot you will awake to the staff moving furniture in the restaurant … and by “moving furniture” I assume they were picking up tables and just throwing them against walls because THAT IS HOW LOUD THIS PLACE IS.
After 24 hours on this hell raft, we were ready to leave and we were stuck there for another 24 hours. This is not a peaceful place. This is not a relaxing place. This is a trap. A trap that you pay a premium price for because they claim to have air-conditioning ….. but they don’t have it during the hottest hours of the day. 9am to 5pm there is no electricity. Toilet sewage would occasionally flow form beneath the back of the hotel into the clear water. The food was okay. But expensive. And you have no other choice. Just whatever they give you, you better eat.
I would never go back to Panvaree. I would never tell a friend to go there. I would only suggest people do day trips to this stunning lake. It is jaw dropping and I am depressed that this horrific hotel ruined it for us.
Unique experience at a price

I stayed overnight in Khao Sok so that I could take the local 9am minivan service to Ban Ta Khun (62kms) where I waited for the local minivan service that ends at Ratchaprapha pier. Though I would recommend staying overnight somewhere at Ban Ta Khun given you have to meet the 11.30am longtail boat included in the price. At the pier area I eventually made contact with a staff person who gave me a check in form to fill out while she took my passport and 320 baht off to pay the 300 baht national park fee and 20 baht municipal fee. Myself and a Thai group then set off for the resort.
Arriving at the resort a welcome drink was provided. Staff member Apple explained to me about the electric situation, meals and complimentary boat trips.
I stayed in a double budget room above the main building for 1 night. My room had 2 large comfortable beds with clean linens so I had 2 fans which could be used at any time. I did have a problem with the aircon not turning on and no remote for the tv cable box. I reported downstairs and both issues were rectified within minutes.
The price included 2 complimentary boat rides. The 5pm ride only lasted 15 minutes as rain was looming. The 6.30am ride provided views among the karsts as the sun rose.
Dinner was a set menu. Even though I was solo I'm sure I was given the meal for two. I could only eat the massaman curry, rice and the fish. Breakfast was a buffet good for both Thai and foreigner.
As to the price you have to decide for yourself. I travel solo and this was by far the most expensive bed I've ever paid for in Thailand. There are cheaper options around the lake but from reading all the positive reviews I decided as I was only going to visit one time, to pay the big bucks and stay at Paravanee. I can say it is well organised and provides a comfortable and unique experience.
Special thanks to Apple who kept me informed of everything in english as everyone else was Thai as well as organising my transport from the pier to Khao Lak.
Can’t wait to visit again!

One of the best experiences I’ve ever had. The resort, staff, food, and activities were all amazing! Location couldn’t be better, right beside a mountain range. I would definitely visit again because this place is truly magical!

I was really surprised reading the bad reviews and thankfully disregarded them and booked and was so glad I did. The resort is stunning. If you pick the all inclusive package it includes boat transfers, all food and two activities. One of which is an evening boat trip and the lovely lady from the resort comes along and takes amazing pics. Think insta dream, so ladies wear something nice for the evening boat trip!!
The food was lovely, I'm a vegetarian and they catered for me very well. You can eat as much as you like.
The bungalows are stunning, I think some of the reviewers were expecting 5 star luxury, but it's worth remembering it is a floating lake cabin. They are clean and spacious with your own bathroom and deck to jump off into the sea. The views are mind-blowing. The bed is a large king and the bedding lovely. They have electricity and the AC can be switched on from 5pm.
The next morning they have a boat ride but the best part for me was seeing the lake at 6am it was so beautiful.
As other reviewers have noted it is an early check out, but that's part of the package they need to get ready for the next guests.
I can highly recommend a visit, the lake and scenery are truly stunning and staying in a floating cabin is pretty magical. I thought the staff were lovely and friendly. It's not 5 star for sure, but Google the other lake accommodate and I think you will see this is the best option. Book a trip you won't regret it!
