Amazing Provencal Hotel!
I just stayed there for a long weekend and it was fabulous! The property an old farm house is meticulously restored and the grounds are lovely & well maintained. The food was amazing and they are also very prudent with regards to Covid. I totally recommend it!
Probably the most hospitable venue in France
Very well done Sandrine & David, hosts par excellence. A beautiful and rewarding place to stay awhile and feel a sense of peace pervading every moment. It’s their achievement and their life long decisions that make Domaine des Clos such an oasis. Stay here, relax and reboot your lives, you won’t regret it.
Lovely villa like expereince
This accommodation was by far one of the most beautiful on my Provence trip. We stayed in the PIGEONNIER, which is a two bedroom apartment that sleeps four. I traveled with a friend who snores, so having the two rooms separated by the dining/living room area was a relief. Having the kitchen was wonderful as well, because we were able to cook meals and eat them on the grounds. The grounds. This is what drew me to this location. There are lots of nooks and crannies to eat, sit at, read a book, etc. The pool (like every other pool in France) is unheated, but you acclimate quickly. This place is simply beautiful. This place is considered a 4*. Not exactly sure what that means, but it didn't feel 4* to me, but a solid 3*. You have to take our your own garbage, which made me feel like I was staying at an Air BnB, which okay, I can take out my garbage, but it lowered the niceness of the place. Also, breakfast wasn't included. Most places in France, we found, charged a very large amount of money for breakfast, which should cost 5euros at the most. So, we skipped it. Maybe it was fantastic with a full British style breakfast, but I doubt it. Still, I can't see paying 15e for a place I've already spent a lot of money on to stay at for some fruit and croissants. And the mosquitoes were bad. We hiked through the Camarque wetlands and had fewer mosquito bites than when we gained during dinner in the early evening at this domaine. They do offer mosquito coils, which was nice. But this was the place on my 2 week trip with the worse bugs... so, all those wonderful nooks and crannies I spoke of, weren't really usable after a certain hour. But the place is beautiful and the staff were friendly and it was all around a lovely four nights.
Beautiful but not perfect - see the many cons below
It is a stunning place, so beautiful, so French. Our apartment, Four a Pain, was almost perfect. There were a few minor annoyances though. Pros - Beautiful setting, great swimming pool, close to two charming small towns with lots of restaurants, cafes and live music in August. Convenient for Arles, Avignon, Nimes, The Camargue, The Luberon and even the Cote D'Azur. Our apartment for 4 people was big and air conditioned, comfortable and well equipped. Local wine and home made jam available from the shop. Excellent breakfast with Nespresso coffee machine and lots of great local cheese, fruit and fresh bread, with gluten free alternatives. When we had breakfast in our room to save money, we were able to order fresh bread and croissants to be delivered. The only problem was they weren't delivered until 8.30 so no good for early starts and everyone seemed to take the wrong ones! We ordered a hamper for dinner the first night which was excellent as we arrived late. We also really enjoyed the dinners provided on Monday nights by the hotel, because it gave us a chance to meet the other lovely guests. Food was OK, not fantastic. Cons : When I read that the apartment had a bathroom attached to each room I assumed that meant a bathroom with a toilet in each room, but no - the bathrooms had showers but no toilets. There was one toilet in the apartment which all 4 of us had to share. Not a problem when you are are young but we are all quite old................ I also read that it had a nespresso machine so I assumed that was in the apartment, especially as I had written to inquire about the cost of pods, but no, it was in the breakfast room. There was also no hairdrier. The hairdrier was provided after I asked, but only after they came and searched to make sure we were telling the truth! They gave me a bag with the hairdrier in and when I opened it sand went everywhere, all over our cameras etc Everyone mentions the mosquitoes and they really were dreadful. Worse here than in the neighbouring towns. Mossies love me, so I had to be covered in mossie repellent before stepping outside. Be warned. Our apartment had its own parking space which was very convenient and its own patio - but we never sat there as it was unpleasant being next to all the air conditioning vents and with a horrible smell of sewers (which we also got when we opened our bedroom window) The local wine in the shop was 13 euros - not too bad for a hotel shop - but when we had dinner twice at the hotel they charged 26 euros for exactly the same wine! That really felt like a rip off. If you have dinner there, buy the wine in the shop and take it with you. Finally, although a cleaning charge of 40 euros was included in the price, we had to take our own rubbish round to the recycling bins on the last morning. I think this is a bit much. We were dressed and ready for the airport, and I hadn't wanted to be covered in mosquito repellent for the flight home, so I got completely slaughtered by mosquitoes round by the bins, which were quite walk from our apartment. This is an expensive place, I really do think they could empty the bins! As I say, minor cons and I might stay there again anyway, just for the beautiful setting and the tranquility.
