Basic accommodation - good location
We chose this hotel not based on ratings but because it was the cheapest we could find at that time, so I didn't expect much. The pleasant surprises: very friendly and helpful staff - I phoned them twice , once to let them know what time we were coming to hold the room , second to ask where we should park as I wrongly went to the car park outside of the Mont-Saint-Michel town. Fortunately I didn't go in so didn't need to pay for nothing. The hotel gives you a code to enter the town by car and park right in front. It seems I never received that code but it's fine as the front desk gave me one over the phone. Parking was easy as it was low season. Once arrived I asked for two separate beds and we were kindly and quickly arranged for a new room. The breakfast was okay, located in the restaurant next door so you have to walk outside which my friend didn't like. The buffet was basic but covered all needs: savory (ham, eggs, potatoes), sweet (bread, cereals, yogurt) and drinks. We paid 4.50€ for parking from 8pm to 4pm the next day which I found inexpensive for the location.
Sound proofing!!!
Clean rooms and comfy beds. But if you’re looking for a peaceful nights sleep then avoid Hotel Saint Aubert! Every small sound for the hall way was audible from inside our room (room 12, ground floor, start of hallway). All the doors creak when opened/closed, they are notsoft close doors, which meant other guests were slamming them as they we’re leaving @ 5am, 6am and 7am. I understand my annoyance is mainly down to the inconsiderate guests leaving in the early morning making so much noise it woke us every hour, we didn’t want to cause a scene by going out in the hallway and telling them to pipe down! But this hotel definitely needs soundproofing as I’m sure we aren’t the first guests the be disgruntled by the level of noise! If you can’t avoid this hotel, then at least try to avoid room 12! On a plus note, the instructions to enter the ‘villiage’ were easy the follow.
You will definitely need directions to get here
Having bought all our wine and parted from our time and onward journey with our French friends, our France 2019 trip rolled onto Mont-Saint-Michel and the start of the ‘touristy bit’ of our holiday. For those who do not know Mont-Saint-Michel it is in two parts. The island part which is connected via a purpose built causeway which is closed to all private road vehicles. There is also a mainland village mostly comprising of hotels and restaurants which is closed to all unauthorised vehicles. It is a 30-minute walk between the mainland village and the island using the causeway, but a regular and free bus service is available. Access for authorised vehicles to the mainland village is controlled by the issue of key-codes by, I presume, selected businesses like hotels. We had made a reservation at this hotel, and a few days before our arrival we were emailed with a key-code and some quite scant details of how to gain vehicular access to the mainland village. These details were simply not good enough to find our way into the mainland village, and we spent a good hour driving around a lot of roads to get to a point where we could use the key-code and get in: causing much frustration after a long journey. The sav-nav gave us various alternative routes but they all ended up in dead-ends, fixed barriers and no-entry signs. We were given the name of a road which we found . As far as we could see this road was just provided access to a large car-parking area. We were also given a landmark - a restaurant on the same named road. This landmark restaurant however is hidden behind trees. You cannot see the landmark restaurant until you have operated the barrier with the key-code and driven through the barrier. I have spent some time and prepared instructions which I will email to anyone wanting it. All you do is post a message on TA in response to this review saying ‘guide please’. The hotel looked reasonably good, in a quiet area with controlled access. It was advertised as a 3 star but I would say it is more like a 2 star. Our room was small with twin beds, bathroom and a separate WC. In the bedroom there was a flat-screen TV which didn’t work with a ‘no signal’ error message, there were twin beds with reasonable pillows, a small desk with a chair, and a fitted cupboard / wardrobe. The bathroom was a bit tired with a step-over the side in-bath shower (no grab handles), plus sink with mirror. Hairdryer, good towels, shampoo and body-wash provided. Reception did not appear to be open all the times but staff all spoke English and were very pleasant and efficient . In reception there was a vending machine with chilled non-alcoholic drinks and chocolate bars etc. Breakfast in the restaurant next door was included.
Good place to stay forMont St Michel
Good place for stay. Breakfast was good staff very obliging and helpful. Reception staff outstanding and very helpful . Carpet in room tired and room compact. Plenty of place to eat good location for shuttle.
Good enough!
For a one night stay to see Mont-Saint-Michel it was good enough! One must remember this is a very popular tourist spot! Clean bed, shower & toilet! Friendly staff. Breakfast was good enough! We were there on a very hot day no fan but opened all windows! Yes everything could be improved but again a very busy tourist spot! Yes like any heavily used place the carpets need cleaning! But for one night it was adequate!
