Functional stay near busy part of town.

A mixed feeling about this place. The absence of staff feels like an issue, but I guess it can be gotten used to. They send a check in email in advance, but it’s a waste as you can’t check in early using the online version. Easy check in at the kiosk in the hotel. Check out even simpler, just put key in the box. However, I had a problem with the safe and no-one to ask. Also one day, my bins were not emptied (had some food waste there), even though room otherwise made up. I had a room on top floor and at the back (318), which was good to get away from noise but it is 4 floors up with just some quite steep stairs. Bar staff did take my bag for safe storage which was good. The location was excellent for me, walking south to the gardens, university etc, as well as only about 15 mins to the city hall area. There is every food under the sun available nearby. There’s nothing wrong with this place , but personally I couldn’t warm to it either.

Awesome hotel

We stayed for two nights in September. The hotel makes no secret that it’s located in a vibrant, young quarter of Belfast so the hotel has easy access to some great bars and even better restaurants. Check in was contactless, we were skeptical of that but actually is was very easy. We were very impressed with the room. Huge, clean, warm and an awesome window seat for people watching. The building maintains its charm even though it’s been modernised. Lovely to have recommendations for local bars and restaurants given in the room. We always travel with ear plugs so the bar noise didn’t bother us at all, to be honest it wasn’t too loud anyway. We would absolutely stay here again!

The 1852 hotel was a perfect base for a weekend in Belfast for a special birthday celebration Beautifully decorated throughout and clean, comfortable and spacious rooms. The staff were really helpful and pleasant - with a lovely bar area Very central too!

I fear that I am not hip enough for this hotel. And I was once pretty hip! Although, just using the word “hip” probably shows that I am not. The ups: The free beer at check-in is pretty great. There is a mini fridge, and you take one. It’s the honor system. The room was gigantic. In fact, I could tap dance in the bathroom. The room actually had a little ante-room before you entered the main room that was large enough to put yet another bed in there. The place could’ve slept six! It’s centrally located. Lots of little bars and restaurants nearby. We had a great takeout in fact. The downs: perhaps a bit too centrally located. It is loud. There is a very happening restaurant/bar on the first floor. I was embarking on a weeklong hiking trip, so did not have any fun clothes, but I could’ve thrown on a little black dress, had I brought one, and enjoyed the ambience downstairs. The room was a bit stuffy. The airflow was less than ideal. Ups/downs: The check in process. If it works well, it’s amazing. The keyless check in is excellent, and we own two properties and use a keyless check in all the time! That said, we do not own hotels. We own vacation homes, and if there is a problem we have a caretaker nearby who can come immediately. I can imagine if someone has a problem with a code or something and it is 2 AM, that it would be easy to get in touch with someone. There is a Phone there, but what are the odds of somebody coming out immediately if there’s an emergency? What about a nonemergency situation? Even if I didn’t have enough towels, for instance, I would not feel really comfortable just calling that number and asking somebody to bring me some towels. But if you have a hotel with the front desk, then you have no problem watching downstairs with special requests. So that’s a bit of an up and down. I love the concept. We use the concept with our other properties, but with a hotel it feels a bit distant. however, with the money they’re saving by not having a front desk, they give you free beer. Which I get. Suggestions: I’m wondering if there could be a little bit of a better perk. Perhaps instead of free beer, a voucher for a free cocktail at the bar? Suggestion number two: any special request should be communicated upfront, and they should be honored. There should be a space on the website for special request and examples. Extra towels? Extra toiletries? Extra pillows? Extra fan for the room? And that way, if you arrive at the hotel and something is amiss, you would’ve had your special requests taken for care of ahead of time since there is no lobby to go to.

We love staying here! The rooms are spacious, clean and modern. The beds are very comfy! The ground floor bar is amazing - such a great vibe! The cocktails are delicious. It's our go to place when staying in Belfast.
