Wedding reception food

Avaliou em 15 de outubro de 2022

We had our daughter's wedding at the Crowne Plaza South on Oct. 8, 2022. The set up, decorations and accommodations were fine. The problem was the main course. In March 2022, six of us attended a food tasting for the wedding. All six of us agreed the Sirloin steak was better than the Filet Mignon. Both were very tender, but we did not like the seasoning on the filet, so we went with the Sirloin. (at the time we verified with the chef that the sirloin was sirloin and vice versa) On Oct 8, 2022, the entree was served at least one hour after the salad was served! The steak, which was cooked to medium, a little pink inside, was so TOUGH that you could not cut it with the steak knife provided. The potatoes included, truffled mashed potatoes, were also nothing like we tasted. They were a gob of thick, sticky potatoes. The chicken romano was good, but the redskin potatoes and green beans consisted of only 3 small pieces each on a plate. I voiced my EMBARRASSMENT that night and again after the wedding. My compensation were several verbal apologies and some extra points added to my IHG Rewards. Although the room was fine, I would definitely think twice about using the Crowne Plaza for a wedding. The food is big part of a wedding. This was a complete misrepresentation.

Expensive and dumpy

We stayed at this hotel because of the proximity to family for a visit. The carpet is stained and torn. The front desk staff were not friendly or helpful. The quality of toiletry products, including paper thin tissue and TP was poor. The parking lot was dark and very poorly lit up to the entrance. The mattress and box springs were offset and poking out with a sharp metal point. When I went to turn on the light beside the bed I scraped my ankle because the sharp point was covered by the dust ruffle. When I told the manager at the front desk what had happened he was not particularly interested and his comment was that he would send someone to reset the bed. Don’t waste your money at this hotel!

Very Good Stay. No Complaints

My cousin blocked a group of rooms for a family celebration. The price was very reasonable. The front desk people were very nice and welcoming. We had a nice room with two doubles and it was very comfortable. It was very clean and so was the bathroom. There is a restaurant, Gather, in the hotel but we did not eat there. Be advised that housekeeping is limited to Mondays and Thursdays but you can ask for any amenities or towels anytime from the Front Desk. It would have been nice if breakfast was included in the room as so many other hotels offer nowadays. All in all, no complaints about this Crown Plaza Suites. Would stay here again next time in Pittsburgh.

Good but not great

First I want to say the front desk staff are OUTSTANDING! Very helpful and definitely go above and beyond. The airline lost part of our luggage and they provided all the necessary toiletries on the spot. At checkout there were no carts and they secured the first free one and brought it to our room. Kudos to the front desk staff!! The coffee maker in our room was hard wired to the power and did not work. Couldn’t move it to try another power source because it was hard wired. Went downstairs to get coffee and the breakfast staff was rude and curt about there not being coffee available. Now I get that it runs out and I might have to wait but to be rude and walk away from me was not cool. The shower water was not a consistent temperature so it was overly hot or cold during the showers. Now, normally I would not note these items but we paid a premium to stay here instead of other less expensive hotels in the area so I would have expected better.

A mixed bag

Based on my recent stay at Crowne Plaza Suites Pittsburgh South, I am conflicted about this rating. It might be more accurate at four stars for service, three stars for the hotel itself. Here’s why. About four stars for service . . . When I initially called the hotel or additional information after checking out their website, a front desk representative named Nico was extremely helpful. He took the time to provide details, listened to my specific needs and set up an appropriate reservation for me at a decent price. Good start! Upon my evening arrival, I found that the room included everything we had discussed. Many thanks to Nico for his assistance. Other front desk staff members were helpful during the stay. The name Kayla sticks in my mind. (No one asked me to write this review or mention names.) The three stars? A very average room in need of an update, difficult climate control, a worn mattress, cumbersome pillows, and a previously disclosed lack of food service. They also only do housekeeping twice a week. Clean towels are available upon request. Don’t get hungry here on a Monday or Tuesday, when the onsite restaurant is closed. Even when dining reopened on Wednesday morning, only a continental breakfast buffet (carb central!) was available. My guess? Staff shortages and/or no profitability. I wasn’t there later in the day. There is a tiny store in the lobby for a few packaged snacks and beverages. The hotel is centrally located for anyone visiting Bethel Park or Upper Saint Clair, with plenty of shopping and restaurants nearby. The room had adequate space with a decent TV. A little card listed all the channels. The inexpensive, thin carpeting was worn. Chairs had old, spotted upholstery. The room itself was clean, with the usual appointments. The mattress edges had been weakened over time, making it easy to slip off when sitting on the side of the bed. Have you ever seen the huge, poly-fill pillows used in some hotels, the ones that look good on the fully-made bed but are too bulky to sleep on comfortably? Yup, those pillows. Enough said. Climate control in the room was accessed through a thermostat on the wall rather than the unit itself . . . with confusing buttons and no instructions. It was either too warm in the room or freezing. In addition, the air flow from the unit curled refrigerated air toward the ceiling, down the opposite wall and then straight onto the bed. Would I stay there again? Maybe, but only for a fully updated room at a good price. Advice: bring your own pillows.
