Looked fab on booking.com, so was really looking forward to our short break. On arriving our welcome was oh no you can’t park in our car park you’ll have to park in their other hotel, not a good start. Location is awful, nothing decent nearby, we walked into Bournemouth and was also disappointed as nothing there either. We did venture out to Sandbanks/Salisbury & Stonehenge, just as well we had the sun! Positives about Derby Manor, good shower, a bar but that shuts at ten. Breakfast was 15.00 each, we didn’t eat there so can’t comment, but very expensive. We were in St Ledger room and bathroom could do with attention, cracked bath panel and tiles, the sink tap just flowed onto the floor The bed was lumpy and the pillows were hard. Also using the loo isn’t very private. OOPS!

We first stayed at Derby Manor mid September 2021 when we dropped our daughter off to start her studies at the AUB. We have been back seven times in the past nine months and have had a consistently excellent experience at this well run, high quality establishment. The staff are professional, courteous, friendly and reliable. Theresa and the reception team plus the team at breakfast are welcoming, consistent and efficient and a real pleasure to interact with. The rooms are all spotless, comfortable, safe, well aired, quiet and spacious. We have stayed in the smallest room and the largest (and several in between) and they have all been as described and high quality. The parking at Derby Manor is no problem. There is generally enough space immediately outside, otherwise there is plenty of space across the road at their sister hotel. No issues whatsoever with late night access. Breakfast is a real joy; very good choice served in a spacious dining area and prompt and friendly service. The bar service in the evening is also relaxed and excellent. In summary, Derby Manor feels like home from home and every single trip has been enjoyable and relaxing. Our daughter has now finished her course but we will definitely return. We would thoroughly recommend Derby Manor to anyone who wants a well located, high quality B&B/boutique hotel which is a pleasant and short walk to Boscombe Pier and really well positioned to explore and enjoy the greater Bournemouth area.

good and bad

Stayed at the Oaks room which was clean and roomy , but I did not like the frosted glass bathroom door which had a clear class bottom and a clear glass to to it, about 10 inches wide in each case. We like total privacy while in the bathroom which also did not have a lock on it. The hotel and the staff was good in general, but I was surprised after reading the reviews on the breakfast which I found to be below par. The whole plate of food was luke warm , it had been prepared some time ago, the sausage tasted as if it was cooked a couple of days ago, my wife could not eat hers. the fried egg had a pale yellow yoke, (poor quality) we made our own toast and fetched our own coffee . I had a bad stomach after eating the sausage, I am guessing it was the sausage, as my wife had the same food as I except for the sausage and she was ok. i would not stay at this hotel again. I

Almost 5 stars but for a bathroom in need of a bit of attention. A very nice Guesthouse conveniently situated between the two piers. The Derby Manor presents well and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Room was a good size and nicely appointed. We enjoyed our stay and would happily return but perhaps not currently to the St Ledger room. I would have given a 5 star review but for our bathroom which had a badly cracked bath top and panel, a sink tap that splashed all over me, a toilet seat that didn’t really fit and the fact that some of the bathroom detailing and finishing in general left a bit to be desired. Shame. On a purely personal note we would have preferred a firmer mattress on the bed. Very nice good quality breakfast with a nice selection of hot and cold. Spoke with reception regarding the bathroom when checking out and they very kindly offered to ‘comp’ our breakfasts, which was much appreciated.

Lovely Hotel

We spent 1 night here so my review is based on that. From the outside the hotel looks lovely and feels very secluded. When you walk in you can see the hotel has been very tastefully decorated. Loved the suit of armour at the bottom of a beautiful staircase. The rooms are named after racecourses and we were in the Newmarket room. The room itself beautifully decorated, very big comfy bed, and a kettle with plenty of tea/coffee etc. The bathroom again very nicely decorated, our bathroom had a shower only but it had great water pressure and plenty of room. We had breakfast the next morning, breakfast is a mixture of buffet style with cereal and toast etc and then a hot menu you order from. Decent choice of full English or a vegetarian equivalent, eggs Benedict. Both my wife and I had the full English. Fantastic ingredients, I don't know if they source locally but both the bacon and sausage were delicious. The breakfast consisted of 2 good sized rashers of bacon, a sausage sliced, hash brown, mushrooms, blackpudding and egg served as you wish. You will not go hungry!! Coffee was excellent, tea was plentiful and lots of choices of fresh fruit juices. Staff on check-in and checkout were lovely, staff in the restaurant were equally lovely. Honestly I can't fault the place, would love to come back for a longer stay. It felt very peaceful. Oh and you are about a 10 minute walk to the beach which is lovely and sandy, from the beach you are then a 2k walk to the main beach in Bournemouth and a 3k walk to the town centre.
