Fab last minute weekend stay
The hotel location was in the middle of all that was needed. Beach was a walking distance, shops & restaurants, pubs all a 5min walk. Hotel car park was free too, all this in the centre of Bournemouth. Bedroms were clean, restaurant & bar within hotel was FAB, also the beer garden. From served breakfast to dinner & drinks all superb - compliments to the chef. Staff (all) from the reception, bar staff to kitchen staff and then the owner & his wife of the hotel could not have done any more than they already had - always catering to our needs - great customer service with a friendly smile and very helpful. All you want from a hotel with a good stay is here where the staff go over & beyond to ensure you have a FAB stay which was excellent. Thank You to all @ this hotel for making our weekend a most memorable time. We will be back soon.
We joined our family who were staying at the Collingwood for a little reunion dinner. This was just as the virus closure was about to happen so, the hotel was fairly quiet. We enjoyd a lovely evening together and the food and service were excellent. Very high standards meals, I have added photos and also friendly helpful service, what more could you ask for. Our family will stay here when visiting us in the future, they had an excellent stay!
Visit again.... Most definitely!!
This hotel exceeded all of my expectations. From the second we arrived the staff were attentive, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was lovely..recently decorated with beautiful colour scheme making the room light and airy. The food in this hotel is second to none and we would visit again just to sit in the newly refurbished Gold Room. The hotel had easy access to all local tourist spots and staff are more than happy to give suggestions for places to see and visit. We were also able to enjoy a dip in the pool after a long (cold at this time of year) day exploring the Dorset coast. We can't wait to go back.
Dog friendly? Almost!
Yes, Hotel Collingwood. It is difficult to rate this hotel as some of it’s facilities are excellent but others are not so good. So I will rate them separately. The public areas are stunning, whoever did the interior designing was very talented. Exceptional. The staff are exceptional too. All staff are friendly, well presented and helpful. The food in the restaurant was, I have to say, de-lis-scious! The best food I have tasted in a long time. The plates were scalding hot as opposed to being cold, the presentation was superb. Well done that chef, whoever you are!! The “piece de resistance” in the restaurant was the Maitre’d.....Piotr or Peter. Wonderful host and nothing was too much trouble. He was very friendly whilst still remaining professional. The drinks from the bar were reasonably priced too. Parking was available with plenty of spaces. I would rate all of the above as 5 star without hesitation. But now we move on to the bedrooms. Unfortunately I would have to rate (at least the one my husband, myself and our dog were in) them as 3 star. Why? Well, the room was extremely small with a double bed.....a double bed? Who has one of those any more! The furnishings were OK but with a room the size of a postage stamp they were too cramped together. The bathroom was small too, I couldn’t get out from the (over bath) shower if my husband was standing at the washbasin shaving!. Now as I understand it refurbishments are taking place with the bedrooms, but no amount of refurb could turn that bedroom into anything other than 3 star. It would be better to have a single bed in there and market it as a single. This particular room was very, very tired......in fact I would say it was exhausted!!! The hotel is dog friendly and , if required , the staff would set up your table in the lounge if you didn’t want to be parted from your pet. We always leave ours on the bedroom whilst we enjoy the ambiance of a restaurant. Dogs are allowed in all the public rooms except, obviously, the restaurant. Unfortunately the hotel, through no fault of it’s own, falls down with not having an area to take Fido for the usual late night/ early morning wee. There is only the carpark at the rear and no grass whatsoever. This is of course due to the hotel’s location, being in an urban area. Regarding the location....it is excellent, within walking distance to the lovely beaches and pier. So......would I return? Apparently there are bigger rooms but these are usually reserved for families. My dog doesn’t “do” concrete if you follow my meaning!! I would return because of the fabulous food and if I had a bigger room, but it doesn’t suit my dog and if it doesn’t, then I wouldn’t return with him but might be persuaded to go without him!! I hope this has been helpful to you. Get in touch if you have any questions.
Another wonderful stay
We have stayed in the Hotel Collingwood many times over the years and never been disappointed. Our latest stay was perfect. Our room upgrade was excellent, a recently renovated room with everything you could want. Evening meals and breakfasts were delicious with plenty of choice & variety. The newly re-decorated & re-furbished dining room is stunning. Fresh & modern decor which carries over into the Bar & Reception areas. We love the swimming pool and jacuzzi and always make good use of it. Parking at the back is easy and has disabled bays. A lovely 3 night stay, despite the awful weather. We will return soon!
