Fantastic remote country spa hotel in Devon

Avaliou em 18 de setembro de 2022

We stay for a mid-week 3 night break in this manor house which is a little jewel in north Devon. Dating back hundreds of years half a mile up the drive you find this manor house situated within immaculate grounds. We were greeted by Dani (who showed us great hospitality and should be noted for it!!) who showed us to our room. The room had all the modern features and little treats like mints, apples & really nice biscuits and very clean & tidy. Housekeeping came in once a day during breakfast (on request) to make up the room. On site is a fine dinning restaurant with great food and service. Also during our stay we were also hosted by Abi during the day and evening and attended to our needs (again management credit your great staff). Also on site there is a spa facility which is virtually brand new we had 2 massages which were fantastic and aslo used the sauna, steam room, pool and jacuzzi which we used on all 3 days... Overall we had a fantastic time and wished it was closer to home.....

Absolutely Fantastic

We stayed for the 2 night Spa Break, and having never been to this hotel before we were more than pleasantly surprised. It sits hidden at the top of a long and winding drive, a genuine old manor house with a history of the site itself getting on for 1000 years. The grounds are lovely, with seating scattered about the lawns, ancient apple trees, hidden walks, and an amazing view over Exmoor. The hotel itself is characterful and wonderfully old-fashioned inside and has been very sympathetically decorated and kept to give a genuine "country-house" feel. The staff could not have been more friendly and are extremely well-trained and attentive without remotely being overbearing in any way. We had booked a suite which had a small lounge area and a corridor with a bathroom and a large bedroom with an excellent and very comfortable bed. The entire area was excellently kept, fully working, spotless, but full of character. Downstairs to a wonderfully relaxing lounge area and then to an immaculate and characterful dining area and a breakfast conservatory. The lounge and the dining area are decorated with commissioned frescoes illustrating details of the life of the hotel in a unique and whimsical way. Food-wise; we ate at the hotel for the duration of our stay. The food is fantastic, absolutely fantastic. Prepared by an obviously talented head-chef and a team who clearly care very much about what they produce. It was so good I did not know whether to frame it, or eat it!! The waiting staff were very well trained and knowledgeable about what they were serving and the head waiter - (who was also in charge of the wines) - clearly knew what he was about. Waking up in the morning and hearing nothing but the wind in the trees and birdsong was absolute bliss. The hotel prides itself on being a place of peace and relaxation and it more than lives up to this in every way. Attached to the hotel is a Spa, which we spent an entire day in, having treatments and generally relaxing, reading; glass of wine and snacks. It has treatment rooms with a lovely range of treatments given by very professional and friendly staff who absolutely make the experience one to thoroughly relax and enjoy. The Spa has a pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, and for the athletic, a gym, as well as comfortable seating areas dotted all around including on a balcony overlooking the magnificent vista of Exmoor. Overall then, a thoroughly enjoyable stay in a wonderful hotel and an excellent Spa. Perfect for relaxing, unwinding, and if only briefly, pushing away the world and existing in gloriously isolated, peaceful location. Wonderful.

Amazing place to stay with genuine character and charm.

Without a doubt worth a visit for one night or several nights. We stayed for the second time for our anniversary. The staff are all so helpful and friendly and clearly love where they work. The food is outstanding (breakfast and especially the three course dinner- food you really cannot cook yourself at home without some serious professional skills!). The spa is worth a visit in its own right- modern, tranquil and has incredible views for miles. The hotel itself has plenty of character whether you're staying in summer or winter. A few areas could do with a freshen up and updating (so don't expect super modern or swish), but honestly we found it just part of the character and nothing is 'run down' or anything like that. Night and day the grounds are also worth walking and sitting in to enjoy the countryside and the silence it brings (owls, bats and cows are never far away to watch and listen to). No complaints whatsoever. Will definitely be back soon.

Good stay

Stayed here with my partner for our anniversary. The Receptionist was friendly and we were checked in promptly. Once shown to our room we then went down to the lounge for the cream team I had booked. We were sat there for a little while before I had to go and find someone to let them know we were ready. The lounge could do with some music as it was only us in there and we could hear everything going on in the kitchen/restaurant. The cream tea itself was fantastic and great quality. We later visited the spa which is beautiful and stayed there for a few hours. The steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and pool are brilliant and the view is stunning. It was quite busy when we first went in so we went out to the lounge for a drink and I had a sandwich which was lovely. We did not dine in the evening however ordered drinks to our room which were nice and reasonably priced. The room was cosy but had everything we needed. The extractor fan was quite dirty and it took a while for the steam to clear after a shower. The water pressure was also weak but okay. Breakfast was good and there was lots of choice. Again, it could just do with some music in the restaurant as it was so quiet and we could hear everyone’s conversations. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Birthday prresent

We were treated to a dining experience for our birthdays. There were lots of restaurants to choose from throughout the uk, but with Devon being our summer holiday destination, Northcote Manor was our choice. We were a little nervous having not done this sort of thing a lot/ at all, but we had a wonderful time. We really liked the laid back, but professional approach of all the staff who want you to relax and enjoy a fine dining experience. They were really friendly and took the time to chat, bit also gave you privacy. We had a four course meal and the food was amazing. We were really surprised to have extra touches of aperitifs and amuse Bouche s with very tasty bread rolls and petit fours to go with our coffee. Thank you very much. ❤️
