Mini break

Avaliou em 11 de setembro de 2022

A last minute 1 night get away. A comfortable but dated hotel pleasant staff and a great breakfast. Bed was very soft. Dissapointed to find 5 or 6 staff smoking outside the front door when we returned from our night out.

Disappointed

Wedding anniversary weekend and the hotel was really disappointing. For what we paid - £300 for two nights, the hotel was pretty dreadful. The rooms and hotel are very dated. Our room was not cleaned the first day and when we complained at 4pm the hotel advised that the cleaner was still doing the rooms! Breakfast was ok but wouldn't recommend. Only good thing is the central location.

Disappointing. Birthday celebration ruined on a grand scale.

The Old Hall is very much in need of TLC. Although the bedding and towels were immaculately clean, the room had cobwebs behind cupboards and hanging from the ceiling. The lack of staff was obvious on arrival, and, although polite and helpful, very under trained and struggled to cope. The table we had booked wasn't ready. We then waited for half an hour without even being asked if we would like drinks. Upon complaining, the manageress through the young waitress under the bus. It was clearly her fault, not the waitresses. Terrible service. We left and ate elsewhere. As it turned out - we found a fantastic place around the corner! 'Bailey's'. No, we would definitely not stop here ever again. Fantastic building but no investment going in at all. Real shame.

Stayed one night as booked in at the opera house. My dog loved it and so did we! Lovely staff who went out of their way to make us welcome, great food & comfy clean bed, hot shower We felt totally relaxed here. Great central location minutes from the opera house & across from the park. Our pooch got a little welcome pack and lots of fuss from the staff. I hope when its refurbed it will keep its current charm & character.

Nice hotel good location

We have stayed before and we like the hotel in its present state, it's quirky and old fashioned, it's clean and tidy and our room and breakfast room really lovely. Ocation is excellent and parking cheap, ticket bought at reception. The view from our window, room 10, was fantastic. The breakfast first morning Sunday 7th was a great experience, food very good and service excellent, the staff warmly greeted us and the young man serving us was extremely polite. Monday 8th August breakfast was a disaster, we went down about 8.00 am, hot breakfast wasn't put out, served a pot of warm tea by the elderly lady who didn't seem to know what she was doing, no one checked any of the customers were actually staying at the hotel. The dining room was left unattended for most of the time, the young girl was inexperienced too and neither seem to have had any customer service training. My husband went to call into kitchen to get our tea changed and ask where breakfast was, the older lady said she would put it out, not sure why she hadn't done so already. It was put out, luke warm and had clearly been standing ages, beans had a skin on the top. To top it all the older lady said the plates were cold and in front of us went over the whole of the surface of the plate with her bare hands to feel the heat on several plates, this was incredibly unhygienic, we took a plate from the bottom of the pile. We complained at reception and we asked for a refund for breakfast. We were given it, but we had to ask, it should have been offered. It was only when the managers were called in that things got sorted. The hotel had 3 managers that morning, so why breakfast was not better supervised I'm not sure. We were told it was a new chef, the problem was not the chef, it was inexperienced and inefficient waitresses that was the problem and a complete lack of supervision. It's a real shame as we loved our stay in every other way, but breakfast is an important part of the stay.
