Very central location. Rooms could be more organized and little bit cleaner, but the rest was fine. Reception was great, kitchen available, washrooms were clean, common areas were clean. Ask for the tours on reception, very reasonable price.

Owner was a really nice guy; however no fan in dorm which made it hard to get a good night sleep. Only 1 toilet and 2 showers for 14 people. Not sure where all the good reviews came from.

Do Not Stay Here

I want to start off by saying that I understand hostel living and don’t expect 5 star accommodations. However, what I do expect is air conditioning, esp when a website says there is air conditioning. At the Baja Cactus Hostel, there is in fact air conditioning , but with conditions.
When we checked in, there was no mention of non AC hours. We had to find the AC switch, turn it on then be told we didn’t qualify for it, because we were in the group room until 11 pm. Imagine up to 12 people, in a room with NO AC and it’s close to 90 outside.
Only private rooms have AC available 24/7. The coed group room, which when you think about it, per day, has the ability to be the most profitable room for the hostel, only has running AC during the hours of 11pm to 7am. I understand that perhaps in the day people are out and about, but AC should be available at a steady temp all day. Your sleeping space should be a reprieve from the sweltering temps outside. Temps were in the high 80s low 90s during our stay and this hostel made it a point to turn off the AC after we had found it to turn on.
I find this unacceptable.
I also find it unacceptable that there was no hot water during our stay. The shower head broke in one shower and the other had sub par water pressure. We were offered no towels, either to rent or use. Some in our group bought them in the town and others happened upon some in a cabinet. The toilet kept backing up, and the bathroom constantly smelled.
There is no changing space for the coed group room. So unless you change in a hot steamy shower room, with your whole body still wet, you have to walk around in your towel, in mixed company to cool off then figure out where you will get dressed.
The beds were hard and the pillows flat, someone stole labeled food out of the fridge, and the pictures don’t represent this establishment.
I could have let everything else slide but the AC issue was a deal breaker for me. Had we not prepaid for this space we would have went elsewhere immediately.
Place is ok, staff is dishonest

We had a private room on the second floor. It wasn’t the cleanest place but for backpackers it’s ok.
There is only one bathroom in the second floor which is why you always have to wait, especially in the morning. You can use the two bathrooms in the first floor as well but since there are the dorm rooms they’re also occupied most of the time.
We liked it for a short stay but we are VERY DISAPPOINTED about the staff. I forgot my favorite training shoes in our room and when I called them they said that they never found them. The guy on the phone even got rude when I asked if maybe the cleaning women took them (what I could understand... I didn’t accuse her for robbery and I didn’t say it in a bad way). His answer was that maybe the people who rented the room after us took them. So I ask myself: how well did the cleaning lady clean if she didn’t find shoes while cleaning and which tourists would take some worn training shoes?
Well.... I don’t know...
