Carlisle s prestige historic hotel In centre of town with useful cafe lounge and relaxed good breakfast. Staff dealt well with a probelm with room in Annex. Main building rooms were pleasant but Annex rooms were well worn , with basic maintenance issues so avoid Annex if you can

The Hotel was excellent in every way .I was upgraded to a suite with a 4 poster bed very impressive. The food was excellent quality and the staff were very help full and friendly will certainly be back again .The pool was closed sadly

The annex is truly terrible

Solo business traveller who, despite being one of the first to check in, was given a room in the annex. The grotty entrance leads to a set of stairs (the lift wasn't working) with frayed 80's carpet, and eventually to room 114. Dreadful, dated decor. Tiny bathroom with a shower more akin to a watering can and so much noise from the rooms either side it was like the walls were made of paper. The bed was old but reasonable, but switching the heating off when it was -5 degrees outside meant I had to get up in the middle of the night to put half my clothes back on or freeze even more. I even switched on the towel heater in the bathroom in the hope of some respite. In the morning the neighbouring guest decided to take an early shower and the noise from the pipework made me think we were under attack. Probably the most disappointing thing was the attitude of the staff when I pointed out just how bad an experience it was, so I guess they must be hardened to it. The breakfast was decent but any enjoyment had been washed away by the fight to avert hypothermia.

Gorgeous food and hotel, room for a lot of improvement though

Me and my family went for a meal at the crown and mitre. The food was amazing. I had the feather blade and my family had a couple of things off of the bar menu. We all agreed that the food was very good, better than other places we have been. The reason that I put 3 stars is that the place as a lot of potential. We couldn’t find the menus online at all and when my family called to ask about it, they said the menu changes a lot and they don’t put it online, I feel that even if it changes frequently they could post it on Facebook and have more of a presence with their advertising. I also attended the wedding fayre and the function hall is gorgeous. It could do with a little work but if they advertised the hotel and restaurant correctly they would have a lot more business. The atmosphere in the restaurant was terrible, we were the only ones there. I am writing this in hope that u see it as helpful feedback as I will return but would love to see it improve. It is a very grand hotel and I will recommend it to my family and friends however I would like to see improvement from the advertising side but the food was impeccable, the only thing I could maybe fault as u may say is that the quality of my brothers steak was poor, you might need a better butchers. I work in hospitality myself and I myself appreciate constructive criticism/feedback and I hope that the crown and mitre hotel appreciates this.

Standard king room, decent size, looked on to Main Street but surprisingly quiet! Smart TV, and modern bathroom with rainfall shower. Central location, Pool and jacuzzi lovely with towels provided, well maintained and spotlessly clean. Plentiful buffet breakfast, cereals, fruit and full English. Staff very pleasant. Only down side for me was it very warm everywhere (but it is winter to be fair) Look forward to staying again
