Another Excellent Stay
Avaliou em 22 de Outubro de 2021
We stayed here for 3 nights B&B and evening meals in September. Everything was excellent as usual. - Food was excellent every night - perhaps something different on the menu might have been a change when it came to the third night but due to Covid I understand this could be difficult. Breakfast could have been warmer.
Room was excellent very clean and all clean towels / tea/ coffee etc all left at room door as no room service unless requested. As we are elderly this suited us well. All staff everywhere were excellent so friendly and helpful Covid conditions great All staff and guests wearing masks when not seated in the bar or restaurant. A lovely relaxing break again. we will be back again.
Home away from Home

Had a fabulous stay at the Slieve Russell Hotel recently. First time being back in more than 10 years and yet still didn't disappoint. From Check-in to Check-out, the staff couldn't be any more helpful and all seemed to genuinely want to help. Food in the Conall Ceanach Restaurant was delicious. While the hotel may be dated in some ways, its what makes this place so warm and welcoming. The grounds surrounding the hotel are absolutely stunning making it so easy to clear your mind. I cannot wait to return soon again!
Autumn golf outing

Autumn golfing trip with friends. Stayed for 2 nights bed and breakfast and one evening meal and 2 rounds of golf. Slieve Russell golf course was in good form however as it was late in the season the course was playing long as an Atlantic depression dumped 12 hours of persistent rain causing a heavy ground and a lit of casual water in places. The second day all buggies were not allowed on the course causing an inconvenience for some of the group.
A trip down memory lane

It was 10 years since we were in the Slieve Russell, and stepping into the lobby, it was exactly as we remembered it. In fact, nothing seems to have changed in the hotel in the last 10 years. Looking a little dated, and looking as if the accountants are very much in charge - walls painted in "rental house" magnolia, almost all pictures gone from walls in coridoors (sold maybe ?) Very VERY tight portion control at breakfast. Staff just as friendly as ever. Food best in golf club (good bistro food), but in Conal Cearnach restaurant, the food reminded me of what you might get at a well catered wedding, rather than a cutting edge restaurant. Very 1980's, tasty enough, but service awfully slow from overworked staff. Got several parts of our orders wrong, and then wrong again, and then again. Everything very clean, and I don't mean this review to put anyone off staying there. It was really very nice and we enjoyed our stay, but judging by the people in the restaurant, the hotel seems to be catering for golf buddies on a "play and stay" trip, or busloads of pensioners on tour, who stay for one night.
Nothing too much to complain about, but nothing too much to make me want to rush back very soon either. Maybe we will try it in another 10 years and see if it has had an update in the interim.
Good but not wonderful!

Our visit started quite badly when in a queue at reception we were called over by one young receptionist only to be left standing while a wedding guest approached the desk from a different side with a range of enquiries and booked eating times for the next day. The receptionist who had called us over completely blanked us and dealt with the lady without even acknowledging that we were there. I felt this was quite poor customer service. The room we were given was spacious and clean and lovely. The hotel is actually huge and the grounds are fabulous. We ate in the golfers restaurant on the first night and I have to say the staff there were superb as was the food. We were back on track and all was good. Then, after dinner we went to the hotel bar only to sit for 25 mins before anyone came to serve us drinks. There are plenty of staff but they didn’t seem to look after a particular area of the bar and it is very big. Breakfast was delicious on both morning and the evening meal in the main restaurant was fantastic. The pianist played in the background and we could not have faulted anything. With this hotel overall we had a good enough experience but not good enough to say I’d book again.
