Focused on events, not individual guests

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights for a family visit. On the afternoon we checked in, there was a small wedding on site and we were told that we would not be able to use any of the common areas, including the lobby, of the Inn from 5:00 pm until 9:30 pm. We could only access our room via a side emergency steep staircase that smelled strongly of sweet disinfectant during that entire time. The person at check-in was very harried with the wedding preparations and had so little time for us that she could not even show us to our room. The room was fine although the furniture was somewhat worn out and the bathroom was 5 degrees colder than the room during our entire stay. We noticed there was only one bathrobe and when we tried to use the wifi we received a prompt that the site was not secure and that the IP address was not registered to the purported owner. When I went down to the front desk the person who checked us in told us they only provide one robe per room (even when there are two people) and just to go ahead and use the wifi because their IT person was on vacation that week. The common areas, when we were finally able to use them, including the library, living room and dining room are beautiful. The breakfast was catered and quite good. There is a very nice outdoor patio in the front of the house, but, unfortunately, it is only about 30 feet from a very busy 4-lane road. Throughout our stay, most of the staff was polite although somewhat impersonal. We also never saw the same people working the front desk or serving breakfast from day to day. On our last night, the temperature in our room dropped below 70 degrees. I turned the thermostat in the room up to 80 degrees, but it made no difference. Luckily, we had a heavy comforter and were able to sleep. When, we checked out, I rang the bell at the front desk and waited several minutes. Finally, the person who served breakfast (another new face that day) stuck his head through the door and told us just to leave the key on the desk and went back to the kitchen. He did not ask how our stay had been or even offer to provide us with a bill. Finally, I should note that the Inn does not follow its own published Covid-19 protocols. The website states that "Our staff continues to implement best practices....For the safety of our guests and staff, facial coverings of the nose and mouth are now required outside of personal rooms." As previously mentioned, during our stay we probably saw numerous staff members (probably over a dozen). Not once did we see anyone wearing a face covering. Our experience is not inconsistent with the TripAdvisor reviews. Most of the five-star reviews appear to be for events. If you are having a small wedding, birthday party, or other event this place might be worth considering. If you are looking for the type of experience guests expect of a small, high-quality Inn, an experience that includes a personal touch, friendly and attentive innkeepers, and a cosy, warm atmosphere, you may want to consider someplace else

Lovely Inn in Charlotte

Avaliou em 12 de junho de 2022

Although there is not much for tourists in Charlotte, if you are there for business, this is a great place to stay as it is a 25-30 minute walk into the main business district. The Inn was charming, had lovely details, antiques. The staff was very welcoming. Breakfasts were excellent, maybe a bit too large for some people, but there were choices, including a "healthy breakfast".

Fifty and Fabulous

The Morehead Inn was the perfect place to celebrate my 50th birthday! Dorry's and the team at the Morehead Inn helped to plan every detail of this beautiful October evening. From the food, to the decor, to the service it was a memorable experience for everyone. We had 75 guests and there was plenty of space on the courtyard and in the Tea Room at the Inn. There was even enough room for a short presentation to all my friends and family. Dorry's promised that I would have the best evening and she was right. It was so magical, that I forgot I was turning 50! If you are planning a party and want an inviting and warm atmosphere with great food, then look no further. I had family members stay in the Inn as well and the accommodations were fantastic for them.

Wedding at Morehead Inn

A perfect venue for a small wedding of 30 people. We had a Saturday 11 AM ceremony in the main parlor followed by a cocktail hour and delicious brunch reception (the bloody mary and waffle bars were highlights!) It is a beautiful backdrop for a ceremony and pictures as well. The staff goes above and beyond with their flexibility, knowledge, attentiveness, and ability to make you feel special. Our guests had nothing but great things to say about the establishment and Dorrys, the special events coordinator… she’s just one of those amazing people who radiates joy. ❤️

The Morehead Inn is a hidden gem--charming, elegant, and cozy. We spent our honeymoon night there. Spacious suite with sitting room and beautiful furniture. Wonderful in-room breakfast. Wondering spaces in the Inn and outdoor garden for gathering. Close to high-end areas of Charlotte with unique spots for dining and exploring. Can't wait to visit again.
