Unparalleled and magical

This historic palace, with exquisite decor, is a joy in the center of Chiusi, the epicenter of the Etruscan civilization. Wonderful serenity, air conditioning that is the real deal, beautiful gardens and hosts, Donatella and Rafaelle, who define the word gracious. And as an added touch, Donatella makes her own cornetti for breakfast!!

Brilliant B&B

Absolutely one of the best places I've stayed in Tuscany (over 3 trips). I truly regretted not being able to stay longer, but every moment there was a joy. The decor and furnishings are stunning--the fresco treatments on the walls and ceiling. The amenities in the rooms are spot on: excellent a/c (it was 100/40+ degrees outside), comfy bed and pillows, a minibar with drinks, free wifi. Outside, is a beautiful, shaded garden with hammocks and loungers, a hot-tub, and quiet little nooks. The location is steps from restaurants and various sites in Chiusi. There's private, gated parking. Several times a year, the owners organize special dinners and wine-tastings in the garden (if one is scheduled during your visit--join in!) , lots of locals come and they feature local wine-producers and chefs. The food was some of the best I've had in Italy. Speaking of chefs...one of owners is a gifted pastry-chef. What appeared for breakfast will linger in my memory for a long time to come. I wish I'd gone back for seconds. I have never had such perfect pastries in Italy. And speaking of the owners...they are what make this place really special. The entire family is so kind and welcoming from the first moment--from helping me park my car to suggesting places of interest in Chiusi to bringing me a drink as I napped in the garden. Chiusi was a last minute addition to my itinerary and it turned out to be great. It's a classic Tuscan town--but is not overrun with tourists. And yet there is so much to do there. The museum is excellent and features English-language text and the Etruscan collection is nationally significant. The Cathedral was a surprise--one of the oldest in Tuscany and the mosaics will make you look twice. Definitely do both of the underground tunnel tours--they are both complementary and fascinating, plus they offer a cool escape during a heat-wave. The tombs were closed during my visit but now I have an excuse to come back. There's plenty of free parking on the edge of town and you'll be within a 10 minute walk of just about everything. It's easy to spend at least a couple of days there--a good selection of restaurants (including slow-food specialists). And you'll want to allocate time for a nap or two in the Residenza Dei Ricci garden.

We stayed with Donatella and Rafaele for 7 nights and it was a fantastic experience. They were perfect hosts and very welcoming. Donatella is a fantastic cook and we spent a lovely afternoon as a family learning how to make fresh pasta. Her breakfasts were incredible with so much choice and fresh cakes each day. This was a magical experience and a real find. Highly recommended.

A very special place to stay in Chiusi

This is a very special place to stay . A beautiful and historic house near the centre of Chiusi with frescoed walls and ceilings and elegant period furniture . There is a charming , secluded garden with fruit trees and vines . We were welcomed by Guilia , the owners’ daughter , who was a discreet and attentive hostess throughout our stay . She served a most generous breakfast with delicious local cheeses and wonderful home made pastries . Definitely a place to return .
