Another pleasant stay at the Grosvenor
Avaliou em 19 de Agosto de 2021
I have stayed at the Grosvenor many times over the years either on my own or with my wife. We have just recently returned from a two-night stay and for the first time, we had room number 4 on the first floor at the rear of the hotel (all my previous rooms were at the front) which was just fine. One plus point of being at the back of the hotel is that you don’t get any of the traffic noise or the “beep beep beep” of the pedestrian crossing, especially if you’ve got the windows open for ventilation.
As usual, tea and coffee making facilities were available along with a large bottle of water. I asked for extra milk for my coffee which was no problem, we were even given extra tea bags, coffee and sugar.
For me the bed was very comfortable with comfy pillows. The room also came with a fan, fridge, flat screen TV and hairdryer.
The bathroom/shower room was fine and came with clean fresh towels plus toiletries. My only small grumble is that the shower pressure was rather poor. Our room was very clean.
Breakfast in the morning was very good, both my wife and I opted for the full English, I also asked for an extra egg which was no problem. You also had a choice of fruit juices and cereals plus tea and coffee.
The breakfast room also doubles-up as a bar in the evening, where you can enjoy a drink. There is also a large flat-screen television at your disposal.
This particular trip I booked directly with the hotel owner Julie and on arrival was greeted once again by the lovely Lauren who I enjoyed having a chat with over a beer at the bar one evening. Indeed, all the staff are helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
One big plus point with the hotel which I’ve mentioned before is the car park which is very handy in Clacton. The hotel is also a very short walk to the town centre, seafront and pier with all its seaside attractions.
My one and only criticism of the hotel (which I’ll direct to Julie) is there was quite a lot of rubbish accumulated in the car park at the end where the table and chairs and old bench are located, some of which looked as though it had been there for a while. Indeed, the table, chairs and (broken) bench could do with being replaced. Even so, we would have no hesitation in staying at the Grosvenor again and we look forward to our next trip.

Was welcomed on arrival and given our room.
The room no 4 was small but had all we wanted in it. A fridge and hairdryer. Tv. Fan.
The bath room had nice shower and was very clean.
We stayed 4 nights. 5he breakfast was very good. You could help yourself to juices.tea,coffee. There were cereals,. Fruit. We had full English breakfast with toast.
It was well cooked and prepared.

Spent the weekend here and would never go again.
Stayed in room 6 and it was awful. Room smelt musty, valance had dried blood on it, the bedding had stains ( I can only guess what they were)
As the shower smelt I lifted the trap and it was disgusting, filthy and scummy. I tried to find the management or receptionist but nobody was there when I went down to reception. Had I have been able to speak to somebody I wouldn't be writing this review.
For £110 a night I expect a much higher standard.
In these times of covid the rooms should be immaculate. My friends also stayed here this weekend and their rooms were just as bad. The 2 stars are for your staff who cooked breakfast and the receptionist who checked us in. Shame I couldn't find her when I needed her, but seems she's very busy!!
Wouldn’t go again ☹️

Very disappointed with the cleanliness of this hotel , not been cleaned in a long while, dust, everywhere, hairs on carpet, shower was absolutely disgusting! No manager to talk to about our complaints, no receptionist, just the waiting staff who were ran of their feet doing everything.
We didn’t want to have to write a bad review but as there was no one there we could talk to to resolve this matter, we have had to write this,
Hotel very ran down, should of been spotlessly clean considering we have been on lock down for months, outside had broken bench, just a couple of tables and chairs, leaves, weeds, rubbish all needed to be cleaned away, very disappointed.😕
We wouldn’t recommend.☹️
Just needs some TLC

Spent a weekend here over the bank holiday.
Big plus’ - free park, 5 minute walk round to the pier, free WiFi - all great amenities
We had room 7 on the top floor, it was fairly clean but just looked a bit dated and in need of a revamp, crockery in the room was broken etc. We were comfortable enough however.
Breakfast - first day we went down for a cooked breakfast, staff really friend and a good selection but fully cracked glass jugs used (admittedly I forgot to point this out at the time as staff were busy, however it was given back to me the next day with the same juice so I question if it was cleaned in between/fresh or just put back in fridge) the bacon, tomatoes, mushroom and fried egg were good, sadly the scrambled eggs were really overdone to the point they were dark in places and sausages not great.
The next day we were offered an in room breakfast which we enjoyed - simple cereal, individually wrapped croissant, fruit basket and juices - all delivered to our room. However we didn’t expect staff to let themselves into our room whilst we were out to put it in there. Personally would rather have collected or left outside door in morning.
Friendly staff, great location
We enjoyed our time in Clacton overall
