Perfect little hotel

So we needed a family room late booking same night. 5 if us 9.30 at night. We booked online and turned up - with a roof box and bike (worth a bit of cash etc) and we were able to put the car in the small but private car park at the back. Tue bike was allowed into the restaurant and we were shown up stairs to the very basic but clean room. Air con and a decent shower. Slept well. In the morning we all had lovely long showers and then attended a superb breakfast with good quality ingredients inc... gluten free options!!! We have two members of our family who are gluten free and we were gin smacked at the bread and biscuits and cereals on offer for them!!! Outstanding! There were freshly made cakes and good quality thick cut Parma ham- boiled eggs and an option for freshly squeezed OJ. The breakfast was as good as a 5star hotel. Fresh fruit. Fresh pasteurise. Gorgeous top quality. Lovely service. Clean and an abundance of it all. The rooms are very basic and plus probably do with an update (carpets etc) and airing but honestly- at the price we paid / and the 5 star breakfast (extra and worth it!) we were an extremely 😃 family!

I stayed here with my family and pets overnight whilst on our way to the South and was disappointed to find there was no sort if air conditioning or fan in the bedrooms as they were extremely hot. Quite small rooms however, did the job and had a good night's sleep on the comfortable bed. Unfortunately found one staff member to be rather rude.

Rubbish

No one on duty till 1830, no contact numbers worked, front door code wouldn't work, car park was a small courtyard which we couldn't access. The owner wasn't answering his mobile, which the hotel next door (( Best Western, lovely helpful clean hotel)) tried to ring for me, and let us park in his courtyard. Inside, well room stank of smoke, the bed was a cheap metal frame and wobbly bunk bed, it was shabby. No heating in the room. I told the managers about the problem, she just shrugged. It was in a very down beat area too, right by railway station. Horrible, and not cheap.

Perfect for a weekend away with mates

4 of us travelled from Exeter for the recent European Champions Cup match against Clermont-Auvergne (alas, the match has already been wiped from my memory at 45-10). Hotel Les Commercants was perfect for our stay - we had a 4 bed room that consisted of bunk beds and 2 single beds. It was great that we could all have one room, rather than trying to decide who shared with who etc. The room was basic but good for our needs - lots of plug sockets, nice bathroom and a surprisingly powerful shower. The hotel itself was pleasant, with a very nice bar downstairs. The staff were all lovely although spoke little English (fine as I speak French, but just a warning to other English guests!). The location was great - right opposite the Gare SNCF and only a 10/15 minute walk into town. There was a code for the door after midnight which was great as it meant we didn't feel guilty about stumbling in at the early hours of the morning. Our 3 night stay (Friday-Monday) cost us £45 each in total, which is astonishingly good value for money, especially when hearing stories from others on the trip about their own hotels! Merci beaucoup Hotel Les Commencents, c'etait tres bien!
