Rural Spanish Getaway
A nice quiet hotel tucked away in Asturias. It was close to the town Navia but you do need a car to be able to get there. There are lots of beautiful beaches in the area and the receptionist was very helpful on pointing out where some of these are. The pool area was comfy and clean however the pool is a lot smaller than it appears on the pictures. The rooms were designed in a typical Spanish style and kept clean and tidy. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel so cannot comment on it. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
Comfortable and cozy
We slept in this hotel only for one night, found it at very last minute on TripAdvisor. Absolutely perfect, the room was spacious and tidy; as the bathroom so spacious. The bed was comfortable with several soft pillows. The only thing I'd change was the view on the road, a little noisy if you opened the window but perfectly quiet when it's closed. There is also a swimming pool we didn't use because of our short stay and they have a SPA room, but it has to be booked in advance if you want to use it. The breakfast is not included but you can have tea or Nespresso for free in the lounge. If you are looking for a place on the road from Santander to Gijon Casa de Castro is the right place.
Beautifully restored Indiano house
This is a beautifully restored Indiano house that has been tastefully furnished with a mixture of modern and antique pieces (some original to the house). Rosa is a very good host who gave us some useful advice about places to visit and eat. The selection of savoury food, fresh fruit and cakes for breakfast, prepared by Rosa's husband, was probably the best we enjoyed in Asturias. We were accommodated in 2 adjoining rooms on the second floor, one with lovely views over the countryside and onto the sea, the other at the side of the house overlooking the well-kept garden. The rooms were of the highest standard, but the room on the side of the house did suffer from road noise as the property is right on the N-634. If you are not used to traffic noise then I suggest you book a room at the back of the house overlooking the pool and with the added bonus of sea views. This one drawback is the only reason we didn't feel we could award the hotel 5 stars. Casa de Castro is a great base to explore the western end of Asturias and to venture into the eastern part of Galicia. We found plenty of thinks to do from coastal walks, exploring empty sandy beaches, discovering picturesque ports with excellent seafood restaurants, to a visit to Taramundi where all types of knives are made in the traditional way. Rosa speaks good English so it is easy to book directly with her through the website rather than through one of the booking agencies.
Having read all the positive reviews on TripAdvisor, my wife and I stayed in Hotel Casa de Castro for 3 nights to explore the occident of Asturias and it lived up to our expectations. The owners, Rose and Peter were very pleasant and most helpful, giving us all the directions and advice we needed plus more. The room we had was spotlessly clean and fully functional with lovely views to the garden and the swimming pool. Breakfast was superb with excellent orange juice, fresh fruit, meat, cheeses, homemade cakes …. The garden is lovely and also the swimming pool. Would I stay here again - definitely yes. I recommend it to everyone who wants to rest and enjoy a special place in the paradise of Asturias.
