Great first class hotel - great location - beautiful rooms and rooftop pool/spa

Note: We went to Sri Lanka May 2022 at the heat of protest and fuel shortage – and despite US Consulate recommendation to avoid Sri Lanka, we did our own investigations and decided to go and felt safer in SL during protests then we did in the US, so you should not hesitate to go. We even viewed a couple protests which were orderly and very civil. Go to SL now as it is not crowded and they really rely on tourism so service will be even better. The Marino Beach hotel truly represented a 1st class, well run hotel in a big city. Upon entering the grand lobby, there is a grand piano, chandeliers. The room was perfectly laid out, with very modern finishes that are both tasteful and functional (esp the large tub). We had a room with private patio facing the ocean, which we enjoyed each morning and night. The roof top infinity pool is amazing and the three hot tubs allowed us to relax after a long day, just before hitting the two steam rooms/saunas. The restaurant was very nice and offered lots of inside and covered outdoor seating overlooking the ocean, where we ate most of our meals. The service staff was outstanding and professional, esp. our matrede Nimalka who personally welcomed us for every meal and had our preferred table waiting. I watched Nimalka from across the restaurant and saw how he proactively acted with every guest, constantly checking on all patrons and make sure everyone had an outstanding dining experience. He even checked how our days went and gave us local background on some of the places and customs we experienced. He is a true professional and really made the restaurant stand out as service oriented. Our server every day Udara was also great and made sure we were always comfortable. The hotel location is perfect as we can enjoy views/sounds of beach (can’t really go on beach) but very close to downtown. It is also connected to a small Marino Mall which also has a great food court, which was inexpensive and tastey. We walked to the market, hospital (for covid tests) and had tuk tuks waiting at front and back. (pro tip – install Pickme app –similar to ubar) as you will get a honest estimate for trip on your phone and can avoid drivers who sometimes charge 2x unless you haggle. Also stay away from persons or tuk tuk drivers who offer a tour or cheap ride, as they will take you a jewelry store and leave you there – esp around the beach green area near old parliament building). WiFi was good all around at hotel and exchange rate was very fair. All staff wear face masks and front lobby has good security screening (devices/personnel)

he rooftop pool and garden at Marino Beach were an oasis in the Colombo heat (and humidity). The buffet breakfast (included in my stay) was also a feast to the senses. The food court in the upstairs mall also provided another cheap and easy option for meals. And free parking was also a bonus.

It is a very good location, has good-sized rooms and they are very clean, there is a very good buffet offering, good gym and it is nice to have a good range of refreshments available in the mini bar on a complimentary basis. The highlights are rooftop pool and amazing ocean views. The spread available at the buffet breakfast and dinner are of 5-star standard and the customer service standards on offer at the buffet restaurant were exceptional, led by the co-Captain Nimalka. Well done to the housekeeping staff too and they were very attentive and very friendly. The only disappointment at this hotel was the "dont care" service offered by the reception staff member Hashan. Sadly, he was very consistent with his poor service standards. Hashan needs to understand that the Hotel customers are more important than himself.

Lovely room, the hotel has amazing views from the rooftop pool and the restaurant balcony. Great breakfast. The pool and roof garden area were AMAZING. Also the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom luxurious and the staff very helpful and friendly. The infinity pool was magical. Watching the sunset from the pool was epic. Disliked · When we arrived at the hotel our tipple room was not ready, we waited until they were ready even though I had booked a month ago.

Beautiful scenery view . Wonderful environment around the Infinity pool area . Doorman and supportive staff ,given excellent hospitality including the staff at the lobby Overall a nice experience to share . Happy to visit once again . 👍👍👍
