Sea views

Paying a small extra amount we had second floor accommodation which facing the beach and was well worth it. The hotel has a good restaurant but not open on Sunday evening however there are good restaurants in Concarneau five minutes by car or twenty minutes walk. A comfortable hotel with excellent facilities housekeeping did a good job on maintaining the room restaurant staff were polite and helpful. Concarneau is not to be missed especially in the walled city again plenty of places to eat out

Wonderful setting with lovely views

The views from our sea-facing room were spectacular with boats buzzing around in the bay, walkers, dogs on the beach and the far-reaching spectacle of Cap Coz on the horizon. Our room was warm and bed linen was excellent quality. As it was autumn, the hotel was quiet and the in-house restaurant served a changing prix fixe menu each day - all fresh ingredients. The hotel has a heated pool. Top marks go to English speaking staff who welcomed us, made sure we had everything we needed and were courteous and kind. The hotel itself, all its facilities and public areas were spotlessly clean and attractively decorated. Although many other hotels decline to change bed-linen (Covid) - this happened to us elsewhere in France and also in Scotland - the team at Hotel de l'Ocean serviced our room each day. We were delighted with our stay and will go back. The hotel is about a half-hour/20 minute walk to the port (depending on your level of fitness) but we drove each day. We will go back. Well done for offering this level of hospitality given the problems you must face with the pandemic. Of course masks were worn by all staff at all times - and we were impressed with how rigorous the French are about mask wearing. They are only removed at meal times and the town's little restaurants were busy and thriving.

Short break

Rooms very good, spacious and clean. Locality is excellent with the beach just over the road, pool at rear of hotel perfect for an early morning dip. Restaurant a bit expensive for what you get but food good, service a bit lack lustre. If you are paying €32.00 for a bottle of Rose I would expect it cold, not lukewarm in an ice bucket without ice.

Very nice hotel . We padi a little extra for a room with a view out over the. Beautiful and great to lie in bed listening to the sea. Immaculate romm, good bathroom. They have a covered swimming poo. Restaurant looks excellent, though we walked into town for food.

Good bed and breakfast hotel, but not for evening meal.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a coach tour, something I've never done before, but it suited my needs at the time. We had a sea view room with a balcony. On the positive side the room size was good and well furnished, it was very clean throughout, quiet, the bed was comfortable and the staff were extremely helpful. Bar prices were average. Breakfast was reasonable, about what I would expect from a three star. On the negative side the rooms lacked much character - no artwork, the balcony would have benefitted from a table and more comfortable chairs and the bathroom was very small, although the shower did work very well. The worst aspect, however was the evening meal. The restaurant was virtually empty but we had to all sit together on large tables and weren't allowed to move around. We had a set menu of meat or fish every night; I'm told you can expect this on a coach tour, but have never felt like a second class citizen before! Two nights out of the four the vegetables were ratatouille and tagliatelle- a bizarre mix and not at all appetising. The only vegetarian offering which they could come up with was a plain unseasoned omelette which some poor souls had four nights in a row. It seemed to be preferable, however, to the fatty pink meat which was described as pork loin but which may or may not have been gammon (served with the ubiquitous ratatouille and tagliatelle). There was a lot of consternation from the staff when most of the food went back to the kitchen on that night. On the fourth night I had fish with potatoes and green beans and it did not seem to be properly cooked so I had to leave that as well. The other minus point was that it was a long way from the centre of town, fine if you had a car, but the claim of a 10 minute walk only applied if you were Hussein Bolt. There was a bar next door where we had a few coffees and beers, but when we tried to go in the evening they were just closing at ten to nine! In summary, a good base in a great location for a car touring holiday, but eat elsewhere.
