I had not been to this bar restaurant for a long time, I will not leave it so long until I next visit as the whole experience was excellent. I had the daily special which was halibut cooked to perfection in a beautiful sauce with accompaniments to complement it. An added bonus was the low prices and high standard of cooking and presentation. The staff gave us a warm welcome and were attentive. I am not usually a fan of pub food, often finding the skills of the chefs to be lacking. This pub stands out as a shining example of how it should be done.

Great place to stay

We were walking Hadrian’s Walk Way and stayed here one night. It was one of our favourites. The food was the best of all the places we stayed and the rooms were very comfortable. There is a guest lounge with sofas as well as the pub dining room. The staff were friendly. And I had a bath in my room which was very welcome!

Stayed here in a family room with bunkbeds. Very comfortable, even in extremely hot weather as the room had A/C. Room very nice and bathroom smart. Quiet. Clean. Ate a delicious (vegetarian) evening meal and had a great breakfast. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Whole stay was perfect - couldn't ask for more.

Very disappointing to find no cash allowed. Were going to visit with friends from down south whilst showing them beautiful Northumberland but went somewhere that accepted cash as the six of us all feel very strongly about the dismantling of the cash system.

This place is very tired. The carpet on the stairs is minging and the bar area used for breakfast has ripped seating and a grubby feel to it. We couldn't drink the OJ as it was warm and tasted sour. The breakfast itself was edible but luke warm . Even after asking for extra butter I still only had enough for one slice of toast and only had one type of jam. The room was nicely decorated and clean but no teaspoons and 2 bedside tables but only one side had a lamp. Not going back any time soon.
