What should have been an afternoon with family and friends, spoiled with what should have been a luxury afternoon tea.

Had afternoon tea here and it was very poor quality. Sandwiches lacked variety and cheap bread. Scones and one type of cake old and dry. Table cloth marked and many stains. Waiter lacked experience.

Terrible - not fit for purpose. Certainly no way near a 4 star. Wouldn’t even give it 2 stars!

This hotel is terrible on all fronts. Despite attempting 9 times to reach Stephen the Operations Director leaving voice mails and messages with staff for him to call me back to discuss my experience on a 1-1 basis, he has failed to return my calls. I arrived for check in and nobody was on the front desk. You are asked to ring a bell which I did several times. 15 minutes later a staff member arrived to check me in. My room was supposed to be an exec room. It was tired, uneven floor boards which moved, dirty rug, filthy black mini bar with stale drink inside, a bed that was lumpy which you could feel the springs. The room smelt of mould. Windows you couldn’t open. One small towel. No telephone to contact reception. Reception staff in the morning wore tracksuits. This is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. I’m surprised it hasn’t been closed down. Great location but that’s all it has going for it. With the Ops Director not returning my calls not great customer service either.

Meeting up with family

Avaliou em 13 de março de 2023

We had 2 rooms booked for an overnight stay to see family. The rooms were clean and adequate. The staff were fantastic almost felt sorry for the lady at breakfast who seemed to be on her own and worked as I hard to keep us all looked after. She deserves a mention as she was so helpful. Had to ask for missing teaspoon and more towels as only had 1 set but it was soon sorted. The hotel us a beautiful building in a pretty location close to all amenities. The parking is a bit if an issue but can be free on a weekend if you speak to the hotel. Breakfast came with the price and was lovely. Cooked if wanted and even smoked salmon. All in all would stay again as it is in a perfect location and beautiful building.

This hotel is in a pretty part of the city well located for everything. The staff were exceptional especially the lady on at breakfast as she was very obliging even when busy. Rooms are clean and even when there was a problem e.g missing teaspoon they very quickly sorted this. Excellent breakfast and fantastic staff would definitely stay again when visiting the city.

Seen Better Days

Avaliou em 10 de março de 2023

I've been a regular visitor to Derby in recent months. My usual place was full, so I thought I'd give this a whirl. The entrance hall is certainly impressive - hard to believe it used to be a police station. The decor is probably too conservatively grand for modern tastes - but I liked it. I also met three of the reception team as I was going out. They were an absolute delight and good fun - laughing at my "dad jokes." On the whole, though, I was disappointed. The room was cold, and they gave me an electric bar heater to warm it up. Apparently, the central heating isn't working. Also, the restaurant was closed. Obviously, we're post-covid, and hospitality is a mess. But don't offer food on your website if you don't do it. So I had to go out to eat, and previous experience tells me half decent restaurants are few and far between. (I don't want a gatronomique delight, just decent grub, at a decent price. In the end, good old Pizza Express did the job. The final thing that wasn't very good for the business traveller was the WiFi. It needs to be fairly fast and reliable. And you would normally get this in a 4* hotel. Oh, breakfast wasn't bad ... after I found someone to cook it for me. I had well done bacon and crispy egg - as I like it - on toast. It's some of the pleasure of a full English with fewer calories. All in all, it looks like this place has seen better days ... and a full Google search will tell you this. Shame, really. :-(
