The place is in Dhaghethi island, 90 minutes from Male with speedboat.
It is a small island with dirt roads, but no dust in the air, with rich tropical forrest and beaches of white sand all around, but only a small bikini beach. The rest of beaches require t shirt and shorts knee long.Excelent place to see whale shark, manta ray, reef fish...The inn collaborates with an excellent dive center. The restaurant is on the sea shore,so you eat all meals in a fantastique landscape.Only terrestrial mammals are cats, which are good hunters, like little tigers.
Beautiful island and lived the whale shark dream

It takes 11/2 hours to reach from airport by speedboat and is the cleanest local island I have ever seen. Locals are ever so friendly, lovely little shop street and island is decorated in bright colours. Watersports team are at your service and its possible to visit a luxury island as a day guest. Not much of a house reef but the dive school will take you on manta, reef, whale shark trips for around $50 each. We snorkelled with 2 whales sharks!!! Accomodation is basic (comfortable) but this is expected as very cheap. Dining is on the beach so take plenty mosquito repellant.
Not as advertised.

I stayed at Mala Maldives just up the road fro Mala Boutique. Neither are the deluxe accommodation as advertised. Mala Maldives accommodation is quite basic but at laest the air con worked (if a little noisy) and there was always plenty of hot water. No soap, shower gel, hair shampoomin the rooms but, apparently, available on request. There are beach towels as well as the shower towels. The rooms are swept every day and the beds re-made. Maybe bed linen changed on request. Didn't ask.
Mala Maldives is quiter than Mala Boutique and the rooms are a little better.
The management also run another hotel a little further away which is more modern with very nice shower rooms.
Regretably the breakfast is not worth $10 nor is the lunch. Dinner is just about worth the $10.
Anywhere you eat on the island and there are not that many the cost is the same.
Yes, it is expensive but everything but fish has to be shipped in but that does not excuse the lack of variety in the menu. They put water on your table with the meals but charge you for it.
Water in the bedrooms is supplied every day (no extra charge).
Went on a snorkel trip and saw whale sharks and manta rays. Well worth the cost.
Shaalley from the dive centre led the snorkelling. Very nice guy and always helpful.
Nishan, the manger, and his wife Sharu are lovely people. Very helpful and always cheerful.. Not their fault that the accommodation does live up to expectation.
In fact, all the staff are very nice.
The one area that females can go on a beach in swimwear is called Bikini beach. When the island is busy this beach gets crowded and if you require a sunbed you have to pretend you are at a european resort and get they by 8am to put your towel on one. Ther are other areas of beach but females have to cover up.
None of the beaches particularly good if you like a "proper" swim as the water is shallow.

We carefully kneaded the dough of our journey: thoroughly learned about the country, read about each island. And finally we chose! Dhangethi - nice little cozy island. There are few hotels on this island that gave it even more attraction. We believed that the filling of our traveler’s "cake" would be good: the long flight was brightened accurately organized transfer to the island and the pleasant welcome drink.
Nature grinds all the household troubles by sea, sun, charming views. The hotel consisted of several buildings with different names and the kitchen block. The food was good, considering that all the products were imported: european breakfasts with unchanged egg, beans, oatmeal porridge and pancakes with chocolate paste, for the dinner the guests got chicken and fish with various garnish, salads, desserts and fruits. Cleaning of the room was carried out daily, the front garden was cleaned, mosquitoes were ked.
However, poor quality ingredients poisoned our "cake":
- after the welcome drink it turned out that the room booked six months ago in the building of Mala Maldives is occupied and we were offered the smaller room in the building of Mala Boutique in dark brown tones, without terrace, right near the kitchen; in the dark of the night we feverishly thought about what to do, showing each stuff asking us the booking list (it must be said that the owner of this hotel is on remote access and during our stay never appeared on the island, there isn’t reception in the hotel, to whom to contact - it is unclear); the booked before room was provided to us in the 2 hours
- the sounds of the building being built nearby accompanied us all daylight
- the superior room had not all the charms described on the booking site, didn’t match the photos of the site and looked shabby. I inform you that the room had in reality: bed, fan, air conditioning, TV, refrigerator, good free Wi-Fi, not new towels for the bathroom and beach, furniture can be seen in the photo, electric kettle, tea in bags, 75g instant coffee, daily water in being in the use plastic bottles. Everything (!)
- there wasn’t the list indicating paid and free services (familiar to us on decent hotels) and you will be tired of asking for what to pay extra
- the lack of reception forced us to be running behind the stuff for to pay during 4 days; having achieved an audience in the diving center attached to the hotel, we were surprised to learn that we should pay extra, after 1 hour waving our booking list with the price including all taxes, correspondence about the transfer price, after the request of the check for payment, we paid the previously agreed amount
On this trouble should have ended, but we were disliked in the diving center responsible for entertainments, we were simply denied them: “we havn’t the sunset cruise today, you may not see dolphins at all - nature, there are no programs about the culture of the Maldives in November, the resort did not send confirmation, you can snorkling only as part of the diving group”. As a result, we found those people to whom the resort sent confirmation, who had the snorkling and sandbank, and meetings with turtles and other entertainments.
We wrote about this in the review on the site of booking, naively believing that our review will help to remove shortcomings and improve the business. But … attention! CHERRY ON CAKE! The owner accused us of lying, rigging facts, refusing to use his services and UNDERPAYMENT.
The vacation ended with "poisoning" and a bitter aftertaste.
P.S. By the way, the filling of this "cake" and the ending "cherry" cost $2000. Would you like to try it?
Fabulous week of sun, sand and sea

I booked a week of all inclusive stay with 15 dives at Mala Boutique, and can honestly say it exceeded my (already high) expectations. For my view of the diving, please see my review of South Ari Dive.
From the moment you're met at the airport, everyone you come into contact with at Mala Boutique is friendly, polite and helpful.
The room I stayed in was in Mala Maldives (the Mala company is getting very busy and so accommodation is split across a few properties, albeit all are within a 30 second walk of the beach and restaurant area) and faced a lovely little garden filled with plants and trees. My room was spacious, with ample furniture, and the bathroom was fine for the week with everything working and warm (if not hot) water in the shower. You don't come to Mala Boutique looking for a five star resort, but as you'll likely be outside for most of the day the rooms here are exactly what you need.
The food is served on the beach unless the weather takes a turn for the worse. Make sure to bring bug spray as the flies and mozzies can be a bit of a pain. The foot itself was delicious and varied, and our group of guests all ended up pushing our tables together so we could eat around a big table. The staff quickly cottoned on to this and so our table was set for 6 (later 10!) of us every day.
I had such a fantastic time staying here, and the atmosphere created by the setting and staff is one that is hard to replicate, but so valuable to have.
If you want to spend a week in paradise, with lovely people and good food, this is the place to go.
