At first i was sceptical about the place after reading all the nasty reviews..but took a bold step and decided to visit the place(kama ni mbaya ni mabaya-if its bad its bad😃)..contrary to the reviews we were received by a very jolly receptionist, taken for lunch despite having arrived way after lunch hour..the food was finger leaking😋(both for vegetarians and cannibals😄 with a swahili touch)...there after we were taken for a tour dè papillon lagoon..talk of elegance ,beauty and pristine all served as a 3 course meal..the room-beach front view was soo beautiful filled with a cold breeze from the beach...mmh..i would have spend the rest of my year here..mmh but man had to hustle..the beds well made ,comfy mattress..the bathroom was another heaven on earth..both cold and warm water for those in need of hydrotherapy as per your prescription...head and body shampoos were being refilled on daily basis.. The meals(breakfast, lunch and dinner had variety to choose from. I have loved my stay and i can't believe its coming to an end..nevertheless let me enjoy my beachfront view balcony before i duck for dinner

6 days at Papillon

We stayed at Papillon for 6 days and I cant say a bad thing about this place. I read lot of bad reviews, so I was bit worried after our reservation. We had a cottage room (family room 2+2), cleaned daily. We even asked to spray the room against mosquitos. The staff was great. Thank you Michael at reception who accomplished all my requests :). All men in the restaurant - Jackson, Rahin, Said, Lucky and others were always in a good mood and looking after us. The animation boys were awesome. We are still singing mama looking looking, hakuna matata, papa beer beer hakuna matata :). These boys sing while having aqua gym. There are no speakers with music. Monkeys, yes there are there. But if you don't feed them and don't carry food outside restaurant, they are harmless. The entire resort have plenty of people who maintain it daily. Coconut time is around 3 pm, starting with fresh pick from the tree :) Yes you get cheep alcohol. Yes the "business men" on the beach are annoying, just ignore them. Yes you get 3 bottles of water in the room, take your own bottle and have it filled from the water dispenser.

Ignore the food & most of the staff and this is a great hotel, or could be.

This is only ever a ‘resort’ hotel full of German & Eastern European tourists on an all inclusive holiday & you will only ever be treated as such. Pluses… it’s a beautiful hotel in fabulous grounds leading down to the sea with well maintained and equipped rooms (although my bathroom could’ve done with a bit of a refurb). The pool is expertly maintained. For the money they’ll charge you as a rack rate guest (around a $100, all inclusive) it’s a hood deal compared with it’s pricier beachfront neighbours. The guys at reception are super helpful & professional. Minuses…. Everything else. As soon as you introduce food into the equation, this place takes a dive to the bottom of the pile. The serving staff & waiters in both the poolside restaurant (breakfast & lunch) & the main restaurant (dinner, where you’re pompously asked to wear long trousers…?) are amongst the most miserable individuals I’ve come across in a hotel. I assume they were badly treated during Covid and their resentment shines through. Attitudes range from basic miserable to downright insolent, couple this with drab food that never rises above canteen standard & I’d recommend maybe enduring breakfast and lunch by the pool but to get the hell out of there for dinner, it’s a miserable experience. I had several run ins with the staff who for some odd reason are made to serve you from the buffet with the tiniest of portions. I had to usually beg for more food such as pasta or enough soup to cover the bottom of the bowl, it’s very demeaning. I’m a grown adult not a schoolchild queuing up for a free lunch. There are plenty of great restaurants near the hotel, who don’t require a holiday maker to wear long trousers in tropical heat, not even the nearby Michelin starred Cave restaurant so I’m certainly not wearing them at an exotic holiday camp, not that I actually had a pair. Included beer are spirits are OK but the wine is undrinkable. The tiny ‘fitness centre’ would be at home in Hogwarts, dirty & badly equipped & maintained. So, unless you’re a bus driver from Prague on his annual two week vacation, this place will disappoint you. I’d really just ignore the food & fitness side of things and use it as a nice beach front hotel while the prices remain the same but if you’re looking for a less ‘manufactured’ experience, stay away. The hotel management have serious problems on their hands, they’re trying to run a 5 star hotel on a 3 star budget.

The place has potential but they limit themselves a lot. The variety of food is non existent and the management as well as security guard are really rude and charged us for something that was not communicated on their end and he was so inconsiderate. I would not recommend this place.

Hello, at the outset I would like to thank you very much for a wonderful holiday in September 2021. Thanks to your hotel and wonderful service, my husband and I fell in love with Kenya. Everything at a high level, delicious food, fantastic hotel. The coolest team of employees we've met and we drive a lot. We especially remember the wonderful boy Hamadi Abdallaj. very hardworking, smiling and always willing to help. This year we are also going to Kenya and of course only Papilon. I hope Hamadi is still an employee of your hotel because such an employee is gold. Please greet him from us and tell him that we will see each other soon. Thank you very much once again. Papilon you are the best !!!!!! Aleksandra and Krzysztof
