A Wonderful Experience at The Avenue

We recently stayed here for a few days and had a truly wonderful experience. The Avenue is in an ideal location, in a beautiful village setting with easy access and good transport links into Durham City Centre. The rooms were so comfortable and cosy. We slept so well. My husband and I loved the little touches such as the soft towels, mattress toppers, toiletries, books and throws and tea and coffee making facilities. It was very peaceful and tranquil. The breakfast was also amazing with generous portions and served quickly, absolutely delicious! We were so well looked after by the owners and staff alike and felt so happy and at home that we were really sorry to leave. We definitely want to come back and would highly recommend staying here.

My friend and I arrived at 6.30pm as we had to locate the restaurant. We ordered drinks which were delivered to us. My friend ordered a starter and it was brought to the table before the rest of the group arrived between 7 and 7.15pm. Main orders were taken by the solitary waiter Service was slow which surprised me as only two nore people were seated in the large room.

The warmest of welcomes from Karan, Peter, Amy and the lovely blonde Cypriot lady whose name we didn’t know. Our bedroom (1) was spacious with the most comfortable king sized bed imaginable. The bedding was of excellent quality also. We really appreciated having real glasses in our bedroom and proper mugs. The food portion sizes were extremely generous and the range of drinks from the bar was ideal.

Had a lovely meal lastnight at this pub highly recomend the sharing starters well worth the money biscoff cheesecake is amazing staff are friendly lovely clean pub fruendly locals will deffinately visit again soon 👏

I checked in on line as requested was sent a code to use key safe, on arrival we did as instructed to find no key, had to ring numbers mentioned on email, someone came shortly after, we got to our room which was up 3 flights of stairs, room 6 is classed as a deluxe double it wasnt deluxe but would have been bearable had it not been for the beams which made it extremely awkward to navigate the bed and other areas of the room, when asked staff where really helpful and let us choose another room as the were not full, we had one evening meal at the property which was edible, the first morning breakfast service was fine the next 2 were a bit hit and miss, to summerize the Avenue as a pub is ok, as accomodation its not so great, the cleanliness of rooms needs addressing the bed linen and towels were clean, and the place could do with some redecoration, the staff are really lovely and I think people find it hard to say negative things about the place because of the staff, place is fab for getting into Durham as bus stops outside and takes 10 mins to get there, would I return, sadly no, the reviews I read were missleading.
