A royal welcome
For an overnight trip to Olympia, the Rex is a splendid choice. Just a short drive from the site, it is a universe away from the tourist crush. Our five-star rating is based on our delight and complete satisfaction with our stay. We were treated like royalty. The three generations of ladies who greet you offer care that is the epitome of Greek hospitality surprisingly attuned to American guests. Our hostesses were constantly attentive to our comfort and offered a wealth of local information and local dining recommendations. Turns out there is a charming wine bar just a half click walk away and a small “hidden” seaside resort just a five-minute drive with a variety of tavernas at the fabulous Florida-reminiscent beach on the Ionian Sea. Located well enough off the national highway to be quiet, the hotel fronts the town square with its bars and kids play spaces and backs onto a private garden. So you can have a choice of rising or setting sunlight, and people watching vs foliage rustling. The public rooms have the feel of an airy, casual summer house with a piano, fireplace, honor bar and collection of eclectic family furniture. Board games and bookshelves invite you to linger. Our room on the third floor (elevator!) had a sitting space, comfy queen bed and Jacuzzi tub just big enough for two. The uncluttered simplicity of the space with pastel colors, cool tile flooring and sophisticated Paris art gallery prints completed a sense of calm. And the double wardrobe provided enough hangers and drawers for a month’s sojourn. Breakfast featured homemade cakes, bread and jams, eggs to order and juice from the garden’s orange trees. My wife raved about the fresh yogurt from a local dairy. The house dog quickly became our new BFF. We will definitely return.
Exceptional stay at an outstanding hotel with amazing hosts!
Amazing location and wonderful sitting room with Mrs Angeliki (“Bebeka”), her wonderful stories, kindness, hospitality and wisdom. The most amazing breakfast in the Peloponnese and beautiful, spacious rooms make for amazing accommodation even for the most demanding traveler. Don’t miss breakfast with home made cakes, bread and mushroom tart. Lovely coffee and great variety of both bottled and fresh juices. If you’re in the neighborhood, stay at Rex. Amazing value for money and overall fantastic experience in every way!
Very Pleasant Stay
We very much enjoyed our stay at Hotel Rex. We were greeted warmly upon arriving and escorted to our room after being served tea. The room was very spacious and clean. There was a good variety of things to choose from for breakfast. They even brought freshly fried eggs to our table when the guests ahead of us had taken all that were out. We were given a nice recommendation for dinner just two doors away. Very good value.
Lovely and warm place. Impeccable.
Discovered this hotel by coincidence. We were instantly charmed by Mss Angelica, a warm lady, alert and with a good sense of humour. And as it often goes when we meet interesting persons, we came in for one or two nights and ended up staying much longer. The hotel and service is impeccable in every way. The rich breakfast buffet is very well taken care off. Mss Angelica, her daughter Nadina and every member of the staff gave us an incredible welcoming feeling. Saying goodbye even left my wife in tears. Hope to come back her.
Feels like home
This hotel is incredibly charming and run with love. The hotel owner and staff are very friendly and hospitable. The town's beach and nearby beaches are a must visit, especially at sunset. The food in Zacharo is amazing, and the breakfast at Rex Hotel is always home made and fresh. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. There are many nice spots in the hotel for you to just relax or read a book you don't even need to leave. Will definitely love to come back again!
