Save yourself the headache
Go somewhere else! The staff here is rude and very short. I made a request for early check in because I’d been working all night and wanted to go to sleep. They acted as though I was a major inconvenience to them and wouldn’t do anything to confirm if my room was ready. The girl behind the counter just walked away and started doing something else. When I came back at 3:00 to check in at the actual check in time the girl was there with her manager. They were both equally as short. The manager told me she could not find my reservation. I showed her my confirmation through Priceline and she told me that was no good because it didn’t have a breakdown of each night, it just had the overall price. I asked her to call Priceline for me to confirm my reservation. She said she did not have their phone number and called the next customer up to the desk. I spent nearly 20 minutes finding all the reservation information because she was too lazy and rude to help. When I got to the room it was filthy, cramped, and the hot water didn’t work. I had stayed here before multiple times but this was the worst experience I’d ever had. I’m not coming back here. I told the manager this and she just said “ok”. They clearly don’t care about their customers here.
Don’t stop here
Just took a trip to explore the southwest for 9 days. We decided to check out this historic town of Ely and the Hotel Nevada. It’s a small gambling joint with no atmosphere. My biggest complaint was that my sheets on the bed had blood stains. I didn’t realize it until the morning. When I was checking out I informed the woman working the counter of the issue. She only took photos of the photos from my phone and said “that’s not right “ I asked that the hotel manager call me which never happened.
Coat Disappeared in the Ray Milland Room.
I would have given this hotel/casino a 4 STAR review due to the free drink coupon, nice front desk person, very adequate free breakfast coupon at Denny's in the place and the quaint room. Along with the fact that I won $100 in the casino. After I left to head to my Boise destination-I noticed I left my purple car coat on the back of the chair in my room. I had driven too far to go back so called the hotel 3xs. Each time they were really busy..and couldn't check lost and found. No problem. When the lady at the front desk called me finally-she said there was no coat. So now what do I do? I know it was on the back of the chair. It was the only place before going straight to Boise that I had put it. Not in my bags, etc. I asked if possible someone took it. She said no, we don't have those kind of employees. Well, then where is one of my favorite coats-that also had very nice black gloves in the pocket? Would not recommend unless you don't mind losing what you leave in the room on your way out.
Excellent value and lots of character
The hotel was built in 1929. Lots of character. Considering the age of the building, temper your expectations accordingly. That said, it is the nicest place to stay in all of Austin, Ely, and Baker. There is a K cup coffee pot. No microwave or fridge. Plenty of parking. Locally owned and operated. English is the first language of the staff. The rooms are clean, and the bed is unbelievably comfortable. Adults will get a free drink per night, and a free breakfast at the on-site Denny’s each morning. The gaming floor is cozy, and there is a well stocked bar with plenty of seating. This is clearly a gaming hall for locals, and I am okay with that. The people are so genuine and kind. Denny’s is located inside the hotel, no need to leave for food. There is a neat little steakhouse across the street. If you’re looking for all the amenities of a modern chain, you’re going to be disappointed. But if you like a great value, lots of character, and a rustic stay in a working class town, this is the place for you.
Doesn’t pass the vibe check
My mom and I stopped in Ely on our trip across the country. The woman at the front counter was nice, but was sure to mention she thought masks were a dumb requirement. We got a free drink coupon each and were told there’s free breakfast at the Denny’s inside. We made our way up to the 4th floor (Room 409) and I immediately knew I wouldn’t be able to stay. Something in me just felt unsettled. I quickly had a panic attack over the state of the room (not clean and the shower was literally falling apart) and had such a bad feeling in my chest. I knew we could t stay and we decided to go. Front desk was courteous and gave a full refund. Only once we were settled in a new hotel, did I find out. I googled the hotel name to leave this review and it is indeed haunted. Both the basement and rooms on the 4th and 6th floors. We stayed right across the hall from one of the haunted rooms (according to another review), and just from the 15 minutes spent in the room, I have hives covering my body still two hours later. I don’t know if I believe in ghosts but SOMETHING is sure going on there!
