Easy to find outside Grenoble

We arrived after reception hours (5:30 pm) so followed the email check-in directions for getting our key from the BORNE CLES red kiosk (to the left of reception which is around back of the building as you drive in and park - good signage). Could have used a map from the kiosk to direct us to the room - exterior signage for wayfinding was lacking and we wandered around for 10 minutes trying to find which of the buildings actually had our room. We were in Room 2, so up one floor to get into the building with the key, and another to the room. Had to drag our bags in 100F heat from parking to find that the AC unit was turned off and the room uncomfortable. So, we opened some windows and figured out how to get the unit in the living space working (no AC in bedroom) and went to fill gas and do grocery shopping at Casino Geant across the way near a McDonald's (5 minutes by car). The room was cooler when we returned and by bedtime, all was well. Staff: please turn on the AC for guests before they arrive! Guests: if you want AC, be sure to ask if your room has it. Wi-fi worked OK and did not require password. We used the laundry room (ground floor to the left of the entry around the wall where the apartments are located) which worked fine (bring your own washing pods as no soap is provided). The kitchen was nice but could have used dish towels, paper towels, and dish soap. I had to procure my own at Casino. Small mini-fridge with tiny freezer - enough to make some ice cubes overnight but not chill ice cream. Good microwave. Nice towels for two in the small shower unit. Two small bottles of universal shampoo/body wash were supplied. I had brought soap since I always prefer a bar so no problem there. Note that most of the buildings are long-term apartment rentals so you'll see people coming and going, teens playing petanque (metal balls) outside your window late into the evening, and some laundry hanging out to dry. The location is next to a park but also a car dealer and some light industrial. Imagine this area centuries ago if you are interested in the romance of staying in a chateau. Still, I'd recommend for a longer stay to explore the area.

Charming mansion in the middle of an commercial district

Chateau de la Rochette is idiosyncratic: a fascinating ancient palace standing alone, surrounded by shopping centres, fast food restaurants and housing estates. It has a lovely park and a number of additional buildings belonging to the main one. It is an apart-hotel, meaning it isn't serviced 24/7, so unless you arrive during its few business hours, you can only interact with a machine to get the key to your apartment. It shouldn't be difficult, except that in France you MUST remember the PIN of your credit card, and if you don't, tough. For this reason, we were left standing in the chill for over half an hour, waiting for the receptionist's return telephone call with instructions. Once in possession of our key, we climbed the ancient staircase leading to our lodgings. We found everything top-notch: cleanliness, style, space, views. The breakfast room is attached to the reception downstairs. A good find indeed, provided you remember your credit card PIN and arrive during reception opening hours.

Loved the atmosphere

Very happy! Modern rooms, Friendly staff, unique atmosphere. Mountains in front of you, a nice park next to you. The Chateau is looked after nicely. The tram stop is next to the Chateau making it very easy to get anywhere in Grenoble. Will definitely be staying again! Highly recommend it! :)

Start of our touring holiday

Our family (me my husband and two children 9 & 13) stayed here for five nights in August. We arrived outside reception hours and found the key machine very easy to use not a problem, the apartment was clean and nearly had everything you would need... the main things lacking were mugs for tea and coffee all you got were espresso cups, no washing up bowl or plug in sink minor thing and with a massive super market over the road you could go buy these which we did. Other than that the room had dishwasher coffee machine which you could just heat water for tea once a larger cup is purchased. Fridge with small freezer section, two electric rings and a microwave however the main thing we really missed was no out side space two floors down has a terrace and if we were down there we would have dragged our furniture outside but being where we were there was just two small windows in 34 degree heat with no air con or even the supply of a fan was sooooooo hot. Night time was getting close to unbearable because if you had the windows open you heard the noise outside which wasn't too bad a bit later and we had earplugs but it was the Mosquitos that made having the windows open a bit of a nightmare so had a choice either sweat or have a few bites in the morning. The beds were very comfy even the kids pull out beds. The steps weren't an issue as we are quite a fit family... if you have issues with steps not ideal place to stay... The washing machine and tumble dryer was free and easy to use.. never saw any kind of person At reception so can't comment on that front. Surrounding area... well the chateau is ideally located for shopping with a huge supermarket even a McDonald's opposite. The park it backs onto is ok but wear mosquito repellent all hours in August lots of them. The tram is great right outside and easy to use €5 Euro each for the day anywhere we went to Grenoble got the cable cars up to the Bastille (€20 for 4 single) and lovely, there are caves, zip wire rock climbing 2 restaurants snack restaurant and different walks back down which were really nice. There is a swimming pool down the road and another parc which has good walks from it. Really worth a trip to escape the heat is lac lafferay they have a lovely beach great for swimming clear water with boats restaurant etc... we got here at 10.30 carpark was nearly empty by 1 it was full so I suggest get there before lunch. Overall for the price this was a great base to explore for a few days. Dear hotel owners please look to get fans in the rooms and mosquito blinds on the windows it would make the stay so much more pleasurable. If this was done we would defiantly recommend to friend for a short break.

Apartment room on a day rate on a one night stay

To be clear these apartment rooms are with small kitchen and lounge area. There are no hotel facilities except they do offer breakfast if you wish at an additional cost (apart from Sundays!!) Notable features: fantastic hairdryer and shower. Frustratingly the key dispensing machine was broken when we arrived and we thought we would have to find a room somewhere else at the last minute but luckily after ringing the emergency number for 20 minutes the manager did attend to hand us our room key, disaster averted. We were also advised by the manager to try the local French restaurant, Ferme Dede, just down the road and it was excellent. Again, a short break for us, but would make a good base for a longer stay to explore Grenoble.
