My hubby surprised me with a midweek getaway to North Cliff Hotel. Our 3rd floor room faced the ocean. What a view from the balcony. It was clean with a romantic gas fireplace, terry cloth robes, room safe, microwave and fridge. Ear plugs provided for the fog horn which is only needed if you sleep with the sliding glass doe open. Room is sound proof if the doors are closed. No traffic sounds either. Included is a free daily breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. in the main building. Made to order waffles, coffee, tea, assorted juices, pastries, breads, assorted instant hot oatmeal packets, sausage links, scrambled and hard boiled eggs, hash brown patties, and an assortment of cold cereals. Please be aware that there is no elevator to access upper floor rooms or the daily breakfast which is on the 2nd floor of the main building. Narrow handicap parking slots and a tight parking radius to boot. Close to the Noyo Headlands Park access to walk the coastline trail and Mendocino Botanical Garden. We would definitely come and stay here again.
Excellent location with great ocean views with lots of good restaurants close by. My husband and I had never stayed here before but we were traveling up the coast and really glad we decided to stay here
I usually only write positive reviews but this rating was well deserved.
I will try to make this as short as possible....The person who took my call to make reservations (come to find out the general manager) was not friendly and very abrupt. I called about a promotion they were running. Stay two nights, get one free. After going a few rounds back an forth about price and her changing the price 3 times, she explained that she could not give me a free night because of a holiday but could give me a great deal by giving me a 33% discount. Plus, I would have to change rooms for my 3rd night. After booking my room, I looked online and I would have saved more by booking online with my AAA discount for 3 nights than the price she gave me. After realizing I did not get the proper discount as the promotion stated, and a family member got the same deal for $100 less, I called back to question the price. She rose to her "authoritative" voice and argued that she gave me the best price and she is the one who wrote the promotions. She said I had no right to question her price and if I didn't like it she would cancel my reservations. Because of her rudeness, I asked her to cancel. She confirmed she would cancel and hung up on me. My family member kept her reservation. Come to find out, they charged her more at check in explaining that she was given too much of a discount. They did not inform her prior to check in. It made for an awkward moment and an unwelcoming experience. I called the hotel after her stay and asked for the manager's name. I was told by the person who answered that she was unable to give out her name due to security purposes. I told her the reason for my call is to get the manager's name and apologize to the two people who helped my relative with her reservation if they were reprimanded by the rude manager for honoring the promotion. Needless to say, the conversation went south for a few minutes with her trying to regurgitate all of the rude comments the manager had already said to me. During the conversation, she quoted that my relative got an email confirming the price of the two nights but not for the free night, so there was nothing in writing that committed them to the promotion. (that was not true because she did receive the email) Needless to say, she was saying all the wrong things. She also quoted that my relative would not receive a refund if that is what I was looking for. She also stated that there is no corporate number to call or email I could use for my complaint. She said I could email the hotel directly (like that would do any good) because the hotel is family owned. She said the owners allow the manager to handle things her way and a complaint would do no good. I ended the phone call by informing her, for the third time, that I was not looking for a refund. I was calling for the manager's name to file a complaint for her rudeness and to apologize to the people who helped my relative with the room reservations for any reprimands they received as a result of my conversation with their unfriendly, unprofessional manager.
We spent 4 nights in this Beautiful and Romantic Hotel. The room was large and had a spectacular view of the Nayo Harbor. We were able to stand out on the balcony and watch the boats come and go and by leaving the balcony door open we could hear the sound of the ocean all night long. The sound of the Fog Horn was just an added bonus, never load and just added to the romantic feelings. We had a room that had a fireplace and a 2 person Jacuzzi tub that we enjoyed on several occasions. The hot breakfast was a nice addition and got us off to a relaxing morning.
My boyfriend and I booked this hotel after reading the reviews. We absolutely loved this place! The view was amazing, room was cozy and the fireplace was just what we needed! Some reviews talk about the foghorn noise. We are both light sleepers and slept right through the 2 nights we stayed AND we slept with the door to the patio open both nights. The noise was very minimal. We will definitely stay here again and highly recommend!
