It's got style

It does seem that With The Style Fukuoka (henceforth referred to as "WTS") draws inspiration from the "W" chain of hotels, due to the property catering to a younger, hipper demographic. It's an intimate property with just 16 rooms total, although it seems much more lively than that due to the restaurants and bar being accessible to non-staying guests (which makes this more of a hotel than a ryokan for sure.) The lighting is on the dark side, and the common areas have music piped in, and staff members are generally in their 20s and 30s. Everyone is all smiles and eager to please, although at times there can be mistakes in their order taking (at the restaurant), and in their knowledge of the local area (or lack thereof.) Otherwise, it's a pleasant place to pass the time if you're in Fukuoka. It's tucked away in a secluded area - it's not far away from the center, although it's not exactly within walking distance. The property has a garden in the center, which serves as a communal area for drinking, dining and socializing. We dined in Cotton, WTS's Italian Restaurant, which was decent but not amazing. We also had Japanese breakfast in the morning, which was also adequate but it took way too long for us to be served. We stayed in one of their Suite rooms, which - at 53 square meters - is generously sized compared to standard rooms but merely acceptable by high-end Suite standards. If you're looking for massive rooms, WTS does not have any, so please keep that in mind. The room itself was reasonably well maintained, although we would suggest they update some of the technologies and amenities, especially given their target customer. For instance, the curtains were of the old fashioned, pull-the-string variety - they really should make it all electronic with black-out capabilities. The room key is also a classic... key. How about something cooler, like face or eye recognition, if you're going after the younger clientele? Finally, we were surprised at the WiFi speeds. While it was usable, it was not exactly lightning fast - a no-no for a big city luxury hotel. On the plus side, they were generous with the free minibar offerings, and the noise insulation appeared to be pretty good.. we slept quite well here. With its hipster vibe catering to the young, fashionable and rich, it's definitely not for everyone. And as a hotel, it's a decent but not great value. Will we choose to stay here again? Possibly, but not until we've tried some of the other options in Fukuoka first.

Hidden gem in Fukuoka

We stayed at With The Style Fukuoka in April last year for a friend’s wedding, and we decided to stay at the same hotel again. Fukuoka was the last stop of our Kyūshū trip. And we were excited to stay at this hotel again, due to our extremely pleasant experience last year. Their breakfast never ceases to disappoint us. Highly recommend the Japanese style breakfast and french toast. My fiancé also thinks this is the best hotel among all hotels we have stayed throughout Kyūshū. And their food quality definitely beats the top Onsen ryokans we stay. The generous offer of mini bar drinks is another plus of this hotel, so we don’t need to buy water from convenience store. We drove our car this time and they handled the parking. When we drove our car the next day, we noticed they replenished our stock of bottled water, and even offered some sweets for us. This is the sort of hospitality you could expect at With The Style. Minor disappointment occurred this time with respect to communicating with the staff in English eg taxi booking. We thought the staff here were generally more proficient in English last time we stayed, compared with hotels elsewhere in Japan. Nonetheless they still tried their best to go beyond and above to please the guests. It surprised me to see that there are not many tripadvisor reviews of this hotel. I think it definitely deserves a higher ranking and should rank as the top hotel in Fukuoka. Highly recommend to those who want luxurious hotel beyond standard Japanese basic hotel. Thank you again With The Style Fukuoka, we hope to see you again next time we visit Fukuoka.

excellent hotel for couple

Boutique hotel with big rooms and large balcony. Unlimited free snacks and good booze in room and lounge. Breakfast is excellent, made to order, must order poached eggs and french toast, though the grilled fish in the Japanese set is very good too. As location is a little off from JR station and other shopping, the neighborhood is quieter but still quite convenient.

It was nice, but a bit too dark.

I stayed at this hotel for just one night during my business trip in Feb. The room was very comfortable and clean, but was a bit too dark. I do understand that some hotels keep their rooms somewhat dark so that guests can relax, but I wish I could have controlled the brightness of the room. (After all, some people need to work.) Hotel staffs were very kind and attentive, I do recommend this hotel is you are there for leisure.

This boutique hotel has only 16 rooms . Location is very convenient , it is just 8-10 mins walking distance to Hakata station , where there is a big shopping complex & Hankyu department store . Another shopping area Tenjin ( where the other department store Daimaru) is also very near (maybe 5 minutes)by taxi . Service here , as you will read in other reviewers’ accounts is personalised & very good . It makes up for the fact that there are no facilities to speak of - no gym & no Swimming pool beyond a decorative one which the bar is next to . Breakfast is very good ( you can choose western (very good eggs & French toast or Japanese) & served until 1 pm ! Loved that . Spent too much time scrambling as other hotels end breakfast at 10 or 1030 am. Do order the massage (therepists come to the room ; you book through the hotel) ; prices are reasonable & their service is excellent . One of the best massages I have had). I ordered the massage service two nights in a row. Do note through that the check in time is 4 pm ; it is a later than most other Japanese hotels where check in time is 2 pm . There are 2 restaurants ( both western , one a steak house which looked good but I ate at other restaurants so I did not have the chance to try ). Other downside is that the hotel is very dark . Lighting is dim even in the day . It has an excellent & very well patronised bar . I get the impression though that this hotel would suit younger people more ; families with children or older people may prefer a more conventional sort of hotel . I would recommend to friends.
