Mombacho Lodge is a true gem for nature lovers!

Stayed at Mombacho Lodge for a night and am so glad I got the chance to visit! Nicolas was amazing and even picked me up to get to the lodge on a seriously bumpy road in his SUV and we were greeted by a sloth spotting overhead in the trees with her wee baby on arrival! Cabin was cozy and bed very comfortable. Took a night tour with Carlos around the grounds for animal spotting and enjoyed seeing the forest so alive at night. Butterflies everywhere! Howler monkeys galore as well and I could watch them overhead sitting on the deck of the cabin. Meals were really yummy and I felt the whole experience was really good value for money! Hiking the grounds and trails during the day was very relaxing as well. Would definitely return and hope to visit again soon! Thanks for everything!

Not happy at all!!!

Our first impression was great wildlife, birds, monkeys, jungle, happy we entered the house and everything changed dirty !! bathroom, bedding in a deplorable condition full of stains, snake skin stuck to the wall, a leaky mosquito net ,, a nightmare, but that's not everything our dinner turned out to be a total mistake 😱 the beef was terrible it was impossible to chew it, the chicken was cold and hard, poured with the same sauce as the beef, i.e. red wine straight from the bottle, we only ate potatoes because it was fit to eat so we told the waiter that we did not want it and we returned to the house after a while the indignant owner popped in and said that it was tasty for him! but if we do not like it, we do not have to pay but what turned out after breakfast we had to pay half, he did not say thank you about sorry or command or have a nice day or breakfast tasted! nor very expensive My opinion is that the owner is completely ignorant and completely unable to talk and helping the client

Went to Mombacho Lodge recently unfortunately did not reserve but they were so helpful and accommodating when they could have said reservations were necessary. They showed us around pointing out wildlife even a sloth which was a real treat. Beautiful location, many amazing trails a must visit if in the area.

You do NOT get what you pay for - very overpriced!!

We LOVE staying in eco-lodges and have do so in many different countries. Some are very basic and hence cheaper. Some are nice (or so remote that it makes sense to have to charge more) and hence - you pay more. This place was very basic (bathroom was dirty and interior was just crappy, and the unsealed metal sheet roof made for many scorpions and huntsman spiders in the room - can't blame them if it is so easy to hop on in) but charged like it was some nice place! The place is just about 25 minutes by car from Granada, so it is unclear why the cab ride and especially food is SO expensive at the lodge. You pretty much have to get the meal plan for lack of any fridge/cooking options. Lunch was charged at $16 USD per person and as vegetarian, I got a PB&J, a water bottle and a shared bag of chips with my husband (who also paid $16 for his lunch). That is one expensive PB&J! We stayed there 2 nights and spent more on lodging and food in those days than in the other 5 days together in Nicaragua (and we had nice places and good food the rest of the trip!) It is just not worth it! In addition, the hiking around the place is not that great, we barely saw any animals. Like the owner responded to another critical review with: this is not Costa Rica! I'd say: correct ! So why charge and act like it is!! One other couple that arrived the same day as us and told us the first night that they were booked for 4 or 5 nights left the next day. Other couple that arrived the next day and we managed to split a cab with summed it up as "well, they can't all be winners"

My wife and I had been to Mombacho Lodge in previous years, and we made two visits there this year (February and March, 2018). Delightful as Granada is, Mombacho Lodge offers an escape from the heat. Cabins offer seclusion and privacy, and a young man supplies morning coffee as part of the deal. We can sit outside on the porch and watch the monkeys in the trees, and meals at the main building are excellent in all respects. Mombacho Lodge also offers opportunities for hiking. The staff is more than friendly, yet respectful of privacy.
