Book with caution!

The annexe was homely, but a little tired in places. The owners clearly think of themselves quite highly which wasn’t reflected in their manners! We returned from a wedding and being pregnant I wasn’t drinking, unfortunately for them they’d forgotten to close their kitchen window. They had guests staying & we overheard their snobby & show off comments “can’t have been a very good wedding, their already home”, “he looked like a peaky blinder, without socks” which was incorrect. My fiancé had socks on & I don’t think a linen jacket & suede brogues are quite the peaky blinder look! Rude, judgmental & ignorant. Could barely look us in the eye in the morning & had the cheek to ask how our stay was, I replied “I think you owe us an apology” the husband admitted they did. They sent a grovelling email after we had left. To say this ruined our weekend was an understatement and we would not return or recommend this as a place to stay.

Disappointed

The accommodation was superb. Beautifully decorated and sumptuous beds. We enjoyed having breakfast overlooking the garden shared with 2 other accommodations! However, we went on a very cold weekend and having travelled 3 hours we were tired and hungry. When we walked in we felt that the heating was NOT at all adequate. The owner did try and put on the electric fire, but he couldn't work it, so left us! We did manage to put it on, but we didn't want to leave the electric fire on while we went out to supper in a very nice pub nearby recommended by the owners. When we came back we simply couldn't get warm and we both had to wear extra clothes on in bed. Not fun! We were very disappointed with breakfast as they had advertised croissants, but we had day old bread in a tin! The icing sadly on the cake was we were rather taken aback at being given only 1 roll of loo paper!! We would never go again and I certainly wouldn't recommend it! A real shame as it is a lovely house with wonderful converted barns, really one of the reasons we went there.

We stayed just one night but excellent accommodation - very spacious - 2 rooms plus bathroom. More than enough for 2 people. The owners were very friendly. Bright and welcoming. Well appointed. All you need from a B&B.

Excellent value for money

We stayed at the Rectory Farm Annexe for three days while we attended the Birdfair at Rutland Water. The owners met us on arrival, were friendly and welcoming and showed us our accommodation and left us keys. This is an annexe attached to the owner's main house with the front door to the annexe sharing a communal corridor with the owners and their two lovely dogs.It is self-contained and consists of a good sized living room, good sized bedroom and bathroom. The owners provide a very decent breakfast of croissant, bread, yoghurt, fruit, orange juice, milk and jams and marmalade. Some of the pots of jam were however past their best. The food is left each day in the fridge or on a small table in the living room as there is no kitchen. There are plenty of cups, glasses, plates and dishes but washing up has to be carried to the bathroom sink. There was a tea towel provided but we had to provide our own washing up liquid. The towels provided were very good quality but there was nowhere to hang our wet towels so we draped them on the bedroom radiators. The accommodation was very clean, the comfy bed(s) can be configured as twin or large double and all rooms have lots of windows so are light and bright. The outlook was a little disappointing with views of the owners car just outside one living room window and cars in an adjacent barn from another window. There is no private garden just for the annexe but the french living room doors open out to a lawned area with the barn/garaging beyond. Castle Bytham is a really lovely village with two pubs both of which serve good food and are both within a 5-10 minute walk. As other reviews have mentioned this property is tucked away just by the road junction of Glen and Counthorpe roads with a somewhat narrow entrance actually on Counthorpe road.Having been fore-warned that it could be hard to find we researched on the internet and marked our map with the exact location. We enjoyed our stay here, slept well and thought it was excellent value for money. Thank you.

wow what a lovely place to stay the annex is joined to the stunning farmhouse via a hallway the annex is fitted to a very high standard a nice country feel . the village of castle bytham is 5 minute walk with 2 very nice pubs which serve food , The owners were very welcoming, we had to apologise to them the following day as my wife unknowingly locked them out by putting the latch on the door got a wake up in the early hours but they were good sports and saw the funny side would highlyrecommend
