Nice stay, very good staff
We stayed three nights at Hotel Palacio del Obispo. A nice hotel in the middle of Graus that is a restored Bishop's Palace. A lot of the old stone work remains. Our room was decent sized with a very comfortable bed. Hot water was readily available in the shower. There were several English speaking channels on TV and very good WIFI connectivity as well. Breakfast is continental with the usual assortment of fruits, meats, yogurts and pastries. Nothing to write home about, but good enough to start your day. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant one night which was very good. Our waitress spoke very little English, and our Spanish is almost non-existent. Fortunately the young lady at the front desk, Racquel (hope I spelled that right) spoke both and was able to come in and translate. Both the girls at the front desk were extremely helpful and had suggestions on things to see and do in the area. Including the Basilica Virgen de la Peña right in town, and a nearby Buddhist Temple. Parking is on street and we were lucky each day to be able to park just down the road from the hotel. While not a typical place to stay for us, we would stay here again if we ever returned.
Great stay away from the tourist Hype
Stayed in Graus as it was a central location to have a look around the lower mountainous area of the Pyrenees, and found it to be a great look at a modern Spanish town that also had a significant history. The hotel was attractively located within a small plaza possessing plenty of character and atmosphere. Staff were friendly and went out of their way to make our stay awesome, even providing some photocopied sheets of attractions in the local area, which we found extremely helpful. The owner also spent some time extolling the virtues of various things in the area. Our room was spacious and very comfortable, bed awesome, and all in all a pleasure to stay in. The breakfasts were extremely well set up and were the best we had (although of course being kiwi, our breakfast preferences are different from Europeans). Understandably, any hotel in an inner city location is not going to have private carparking, however public parking was no problem in the streets nearby, and we never had much of a walk to our vehicle. Would definitely recommend to all travellers.
Could/should be much better
We arrived after a very long journey to be told there was no parking outside ( there wasnt any even in the same road) and the restaurant was closed. We asked for a restaurant recommendation; we were sent to one at the furthest point away on the edge of town only to discover that it was padlocked! At 9.30 pm the reception had already been abandoned until the morning. Breakfast was distinctly underwhelming unless you eat cold tortilla, jamon and cheese, which we dont, and the service was friendly but amateurish.
Lovingly restored Bishop's Palace
The hotel is located right next to the beautiful Plaza Mayor and has easy/safe on-street parking closeby. The rooms are attractive; the beds comfortable; the staff could not be more friendly, helpful and informative....The quality of design, decoration, furnishings and ubiquitous sculpures are simply amazing.. On the 4th floor there's a guest lounge, a small corner of paradise with spectacular views of the Basilica and surrounding countryside. A great place to read and be inspired to write.... Don't miss the underground cellar and secret passageways which apparently used to run all over town... more inspiration to write !
A charming hotel in a charming place
This hotel has very beautiful rooms and is located right in the historic center. We have been received very warmly by the lady at the front desk. She was very friendly and mafe sure our stay was pleasant. She also shared a lot of tips with us on touring the area. While the restaurant serves great dinners, the breakfast was just OK. We really liked this hotel, and would recommend it to anyone visiting this area.
