360 degree difference than that of 2018

I will start this by saying, this stay was a 360 degree experience from our last stay, 2018. I did post a review, at that time. We booked using our Annual "Marriott" AMEX, free night stay reward of 35,000 + additional 5,000 points, as the stay was 40,000 points. Booked a Studio - 1 King Sofa bed with partial lake view. Although, most hotels have increased their nightly points stay, the yearly "free night" award is limited, to that of 35,000 points redemption. It is near impossible to find any hotel, within 35,000 points, now. All the hotels we've stayed in used to be 30,000 to redeem for a night, so, we'd lose out the 5,000. They don't give those back to you! They should; they don't. Albeit, they took 5,000 more to make up the 40,000 point redemption. Sad, really. The Marriott Bonvoy program should work with "Marriott" Amex to meet at minimum the increase as the average is now, 40,000. This stay, upon arrival the employee acknowledged our Platinum Elite "loyalty" status. And, we were further gifted a "loyalty" chocolate bar. Further, and due to our status, we were given the option of 500 welcome points or any "market pantry" item. The points were minimal so we chose the later. And, further as his discretion, included 2 bottles of water. We were generously, and for the first time without a request, asked, if we wanted to enhance our stay by being given a 1-bedroom suite, from that of Studio suite. We politely declined as the rooms at Residence Inn, in general, and here are spacious. I wouldn't normally decline a suite. That being said, when I've requested suites, in past, and not here, it's like pulling teeth ---- other "Marriott" hotels. As a Platinum Elite member, and although NOT guaranteed, upon check in, if a suite is available we can be given such. However, it's far and few between where "Marriott" hotels albeit available are willing to do so, sadly. For e.g. as a Platinum Elite member, upon annual renewal of status (once achieving 50+ nights), we have the option to choose 1 out 5 gifts. Last year, and for the 1st and last time, we chose "5 suite night stays." Well, good luck using them. And, FYI - it's not the hotel for which you are applying to use the suite night, that makes the decision. It is the Marriott Bonvoy Member program that makes the decision. Nice, eh!! The hotel doesn't even have the authority to call that shot. I feel they "5 Suite night reward" is rendered useless. I've been turned down more times than the 5 suite night stays I've applied for. Safest option --- choose the 5 Elite night credits.....adds to your "total nights stay," to increase chance of reaching that milestone....i.e. 50+ for maintaining the Platinum Elite status and benefits. Best for us, as Platinum status, is the use of and where available the member Lounge!! Oh and, further FYI ------ When "they" say, 5 "Suite" night stays.......they use the term, "Suite" loosely. You may not get what any common person would think be a "Suite." You could for e.g. just get a room with a view, or a bigger room. It doesn't necessarily mean, you will have the option for an actual "Suite." Yes, when applying/ requesting, a suite will have either an option or a plethora of options. Depends on the hotel. Anyways, back to Residence Inn Gravenhurst. Upon entering the room (524) off elevator (again, not my preference - albeit no noise heard during stay), the room was lovely, clean, and spacious. The toilet and shower were separate from the sink, which I'm not a fan of, especially when you get up in the middle of the night to use the washroom, and hope ALL of you wash your hands. The bed is literally 5 steps away. There is a full kitchen albeit no oven. View was lovely. Parking is free. Steps from shops, in Gravenhurst. Although, there is a free breakfast buffet (Saturday - 6am - 10am), there are within walking distance, little quaint breakfast restaurants. The buffet on our stay, had coffee/ tea, juices, eggs, bacon, pancakes, oatmeal, cereals, yogurt and some pastry items. Bacon was cold, like it came out of fridge although over a flame....didn't seem to be working. I advised staff, and without question, they literally grabbed the bacon for me from the buffet and heated some up.....thank you Kyla and her colleague Ginny. This added to the great stay!! I am fussy, and found the items decent. Better "included" breakfast than most Residence Inn/ Fairfield stays......Staff made it exemplary. We were only staying here to pass through; however, was a very pleasant and comfortable nights sleep. I'm all about a good nights's the Marriott bed. That is why I choose to go nowhere else!! Loyal to a T, because of the bed!! The staff too!!

The location of this hotel is perfect! We brought our kayak and we were able to launch it onto the lake from directly in front of the hotel. The lake that the hotel sits on is beautiful. We had a waterview room and could watch the sunset over the lake in the evening. The hotel is a short walking distance of various restaurants and attractions (steamships, museum, wharf, etc). It was also only a 20 minute walk to the downtown area. Our room was spacious and very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. All staff were friendly and approachable (e.g. housekeeping staff in the hallways or front desk staff would smile and greet us as we passed by). The breakfast is included. It was average and as expected. We would definitely return to this hotel and also recommend it to others.

Very nice hotel. Room was huge and very clean. For breakfast you had to fill out what you wanted the night before and they had it ready for you in the morning (covid). Great location to walk around and go to the market. Hotel sent up champagne and a treat because they knew it was our anniversary. Really nice touch. I would recommend this hotel for sure!

This is a very nice hotel in a very good location. It is right at the Muskoka wharf with a boardwalk to nearby attractions and restaurants. It also provides waterfront views depending which room you get. It’s next door to the discovery centre. The hotel itself is in great shape, room was clean, and since it is a Residence Inn, any room you get is more like an apartment than a hotel room with full kitchen and appliances. Breakfast is included and decent but could use a potato/hashbrown option. And last but not least the staff all over the hotel clearly care about their job and repeatedly went above and beyond to make you feel important. This is the main reason for the 5 stars. All Marriott brand hotels are good but the staff sets this one apart.

My wife and I with our 11 year old son stayed at the Residence Inn Gravenhurst for 4 nights in July 2022. We booked a suite with a partial lake view. The view was very special and we loved sitting outside watching the activities on the lake. We enjoyed the free breakfast and our room was spacious, clean and everything worked well (including the quiet air-conditioning). We used the pool every day which was great. The hotel gave us a really welcoming impression - lots of outdoor space with seats and even a BBQ to use. Our only negative point was that there were too many dogs - they were on leads and generally well behaved but they were allowed in the Dining Room. Dogs sniffing around an area where there is food being served is not something that we are used to in England. Without the dogs we would have given this hotel 5 stars.
