I’ve stayed at the Abode Gungallin about 5 times and have watched it slowly start to feel so somewhat dilapidated with stained carpet and chipped paint. We returned again for just one night and had to endure very intrusive music coming from the restaurant/bar next door. Though the hotel does provide a decent level of comfort with the rooms I feel that it doesn’t extend to the ambience. I think most guests would like to retire to their rooms and not hear the thump, thump of music coming from the restaurant. Unfortunately Abode doesn’t have much competition in the local area but we’ll definitely think long and hard before we stay here again. /

Clean and comfortable

Read some of the reviews and almost didn’t book. So happy we did. The room was large and clean, perfect for our family of 5. We were in room 61, didn’t hear any noise the first night, second night, a little but was expected outdoor noise. Location was great for us, close to great cafes and restaurants and to the shops. Recommend Sunday cafe for breakfast and Ogawa Japanese for dinner. Loved that the room had enough cooking utensils for dining in one night and brand new washing machine and tumble dryer was appreciated as we are half way through a long trip. Would recommend.

Convenient Clean Stopover

We found the location, within 5 minutes of a large shopping centre, was convenient. The apartment was light, airy and clean. The bed was comfortable. There was some noise at night with McDonalds behind and a couple of restaurants nearby but it wouldn't stop me returning. The receptionist who greeted us on arrival was particularly warm and welcoming.

Well located but getting a bit tired

We have stayed here numerous times over the past 4 years and we find that each time the hotel is getting a little more in need of attention. The rooms are quite comfortable and the beds very good, however the carpets are starting to show wear, the rooms only have one side table and lamp in many rooms rather then one on each side of the bed as they used to, there is now only one bin in each room and these along with the toilet cleaning gear is going rusty. All small things that could be easily fixed. The location is great, walking distance to shops, eateries and the tram into the city.

3night stay extended to 5 nights

Have stayed at Abode 3 times. In the past always clean, friendly & reasonably priced. Although we had an extended stay, unfortunately this stay was very disappointing Our 1st night was a pet friendly room, but was very unkept. Cobwebs & smoke smell. Pet smell was expected but it was not a comfortable room. 2nd night we moved to a regular studio without our dog. Expecting a cleaner more comfortable room. It was clean, but housekeeping was only to replenish shower soap, make the bed very quickly, no clean sheets. Towels were replaced.Rubbish was not removed , never any tidying or dishes into dishwasher. By our 5th and last night we realised it wasn't getting any better. No rubbish removed, no dishes done ever, limited replacement of tissues etc and never any water or milk replaced. 5 days same sheets...I agree sheets can be kept couple of days but really this is poor service. Parking is not available many nights, grounds are in need of TLC. We have family in Gunghalin but I will look around in the future.
