Great for visiting surrounding nature parks

Just returned from a very relaxing break here. Can thoroughly recommend. Easy to find and in a quiet, countryside location. Only 10 minutes to restaurants by car. Owner extremely helpful and pointed out some local places of interest. Breakfast is plentiful, tea, coffee and small cakes are available all day. There is beer, coke and water to purchase from the fridge on a honesty box basis. Nothing really to walk to from the hotel, so you need a car if staying here. Can recommend the Chancal restaurant, especially for their delicious pizzas. We had the four poster room with the little fish! The room is quite basic, but very rustic and charming. Don't expect all the modcons here!
Good location, superb breakfast, friendly owner.

Great location in a small village just over the French border, ideal for visiting surrounding War cemeteries. Very pretty property with parking and gardens. Very helpful lady owner who explained everything to us and gave us lots of info on area and recommended a superb restaurant a couple of miles away. Room was comfortable, 4- poster bed and small fish pond in room! There was the use of a hot tub in a garden chalet and towelling robes were provided. You could help yourself to coffee/tea at any time and breakfast was fabulous, fresh bread, croissants, jams, yoghurts, fruit, coffee etc.
Wifi worked ok in dining area but not in room - not a major problem to us. Cash only payments - no credit cards.
Amazing Place to Stay

We booked this bed and breakfast only the day before we went as it seemed to offer very good value for money. We were visiting the war graves in both France and Belgium. This accommodation is in a great place to visit them very easily. We stayed 3 nights
Our room was very large open plan, including a walk in shower and spa bath with separate toilet. The decor was very quirky , the room retained an old cattle trough which fitted in beautifully.
We had access to the hot tub that was outside in an outhouse. This was amazing after a long day walking. Bathrobes and plenty of fresh towels were provided.
Katy the owner was very helpful and welcoming. She provided an amazing breakfast, with fresh croissants ,jam, bread, homemade cake, fresh fruit, yoghurts, coffee and fruit juice.
Thank you so much Katy for a lovely stay.
Great price and quality - we will return!

With accommodation you generally pay for what you get; on rare occasions you pay low and get top quality. Vicq’s Chambres d'hôtes Secret d'une Nuit is an example - for a very reasonable price you get superb quality. What has me so excited? Firstly, the room was really comfortable and the double bed was actually a four-poster with a large and firm mattress. Providing you’re happy sleeping in the same room as a couple of goldfish, it is a wonderfully comfortable night. There was a large bathroom with shower, and plenty of towels and soaps as well as a bath robe for each person - more of which anon.
Breakfast was excellent - as well as cereals, there was home-made marmalade and deliciously-fresh croissants as well as bread. Coffee was tasty and ample, and there was also fruit juice. Breakfast was a serve-yourself operation which was fine, and help was on hand from the owner.
As a guest you also have access to a jacuzzi, which you can book as a group for up to an hour (hence the towelling robes). This is all included in the price and for ourselves (who had been travelling for many hours), it was a great way to relax. For extra, you can also book a massage from the owner. There is also a large garden in which the jacuzzi is situated (in a wooden construction, and we did use it in the rain!), so if you had children they could exercise themselves sufficiently before bedtime!
A two-minute walk takes you to the local chipper, which is very inexpensive and sells a range of products. They have tables so you can eat in.
Were there any negatives? For us, none, but the location might be a problem for those relying on pubic transport - I don’t know. The tram from Valenciennes goes through Fresnes but it would then be a 4k walk - I suspect there is also a local bus service. While she does accept credit cards, it is through a somewhat complicated text-based system which requires a smart phone, so we paid cash.
For us the location was ideal since we were driving into Belgium, but you could equally explore the Battlefields from here, as well as Lille, Tournai or Valenciennes.
We will definitely be back to Vicq in the future.

Dès l’arrivée, on s’y sent attendu comme le sont des amis.
Très jolie chambre originale (bassin de poissons rouges), salle d’eau de très bon goût.
Le petit-déjeuner était parfait et le WIFI fonctionnait bien dans la salle.
