Traditional pub

Where else to drink after a hike up lantern pike? Not the easiest pub to park at, decent beer garden with great views. Decent pint and a bag of crisps to celebrate our trek. It also has some historical interest if your a coronation Street fan.

A group of 4 friends had 2 nights at the Lantern Pike - it was a great base for a walking break. The location is perfect for a good walk up Kinder or Bleaklow with the main footpath being just up the road. The pub itself is great. We had a really warm welcome, a few drinks in the sunny beer garden before moving inside for dinner. The food was great and just what we needed. The breakfast was hearty and we were given a packed lunch to accompany us on our 11 mile walk. The beer was just as good as the food too, with some good ales, pale ales and lager on draught. The twin rooms were clean and compact and perfect for a comfortable base. The staff were friendly too. Perfect place for a break in the Peak District.

Arrived ...all looked great..showed upstairs to the rooms to be informed the boiler had broken so there was no hot water or heating. informed an engineer wouldnt come out because it was bank holiday? The coldest bank holiday in many years! Tried to book elsewhere but all booked up. Travelling with my sister and husband and she suffers from severe joint problems so being cold was not really the best. Our room was freezing and damp.. I think perhaps they should have phoned us before we arrived to explain about the heating, or as least supplied some form of heaters for the room. The food and bar service was excellent and good value. Perhaps a small discount on the price of the rooms would have been pertinent but none was offered (disappointing)

Amicable hosts and very friendly "breakfast lady". Bar food very average. Our room was compact but with a spacious en-suite which was let down by the mold in the tile grouting and on the ceiling, which also had peeling paint. This seem symptomatic what with the creaky bed springs, TV remote on which the "1" didn't work and maybe I was unlucky in drawing a sachet of tomato sauce which was over 2 months past its date. Also in Bleaklow at night you get the car headlamps through the curtains as the traffic rounds the corner. However, giving a" poor" rating would have been a bit harsh.
