Employees enter room despite do-not-disturb sign
Employee attempted to steal from rooms safe. They have a master key. I happened to be in room when employee entered despite bright red do-not-disturb sign hanging on door knob. Don’t be fooled by employees friendliness.
Another new winning hotel in Hermosillo
I've been passing through Hermosillo since 2006. My go-to place has always been the San Angel across the street from the El Dorado. I've avoided the hotel strip on the east side of town like the plague...overpriced, a million miles from the airport, and they were long in the tooth 10 years ago. I think they date back to the road trip days of vehicle traffic coming into town from Nogales. In the past 10 years or so a bunch of new school places have popped up. The El Dorado was built in 2013 and follows the more minimalist trends seen in Europe for the past 15 or more years. I tried this hotel, just as I tried the Ibis last week, just to test out this new style hitting Mexico. It really isn't my style as I do love the more colonial styles. But those older hotel often come with sacrifices (weak or spotty internet, sketchy hot water, worn furniture that isn't "patina"). The El Dorado is kind of warehousey, sorta hostelly, a bit faux industrial, but definitely carefully following a professionally sourced blueprint. Trendy chalk blackboard menus in the restaurant, stainless steel elevators, earthy colours, laminate flooring. The rooms are compact and very efficient. I love bathroom sinks in the main room. It allows for a smaller bathroom footprint and doesn't tie up that space if 2 are travelling. Quiet air conditioning, ceiling fan, King bed, ironing board...a very efficient use of space. So efficient in fact, that without a wide angle lens, it's impossible to get a picture of the room. And it has the most powerful WIFI I've found in my Mx wanderings...at least 7 different channels, 5 visible from my room and all have full bars. I'd rank this place against the Ibis. It is a bit more expensive but still a great deal. And it's the closest hotel to the airport (OK, the Royal Palace across the highway beats it by a couple hundred metres...details). Try it. It's a terrific place. But I won't be back. Just as I said in my review of the Ibis, not because the place is no good. On the contrary. It is a terrific hotel...of this style. It just isn't my style. I'm going to keep looking around for another gem. It will likely have a natural stone sink, some original local art on the wall and sketchy wifi and internitent hot water. But I'll probably like it more. But that's just me.
Breakfast (included with the package,) and meals at the restaurant are excellent and well supplied. Very polite and accommodating personal that works in solving the issues of clients. Very clean facility.
Pool Under Shade, Clean & Inexpensive
We stay in Hermosillo at least twice a year. On this trip we booked this hotel to try and save some money so we were not expecting much but were pleasantly surprised. To begin the rooms are simple but clean! We booked a room with two beds. Bathroom was simple and the sink which was in the interior of the bedroom was not a problem. There was also a table and three chairs where we enjoyed eating our meals. There is a nice little restaurant where you can order good food at a reasonable price and they also have "Aguas Frescas" fresh fruit water, you must try the strawberry or watermelon. You will also enjoy the pool, it is under shade which is a must in Hermosillo's heat.
Comfortable, Clean, Friendly staff and Great Prices
I work in the tourist industry and have been in some of the best hotels in Mexico they have everything you would expect yo find for the prices, this little gem of a hotel is less than five minutes from the airport, walking distance from two large superstores and across the road from the overly priced San Angel hotel with the worlds worst buffet. The rooms are of good size with comfortable beds, TV, safe, Iron and board. Bathrooms were clean with fresh towels each day. Restaurant was clean with visible kitchen, well priced as well. Outdoor pool with seats around. Car park with security onsite. If you are looking for a place to stay in this city this is the one.
