Nice walk around the lake, there is a zoo for rescue animals and walking trails up the mountain.....during the summer the swimming pool is open. there is a carousel, roundabout, or merry-go-round for kids.
Recently stayed for 2 nights with my wife. The setting and landscape are idyllic. However we were disappointed. The walls are paper thin and we were unable to sleep on the first night until 03.30 due to the occupant in the adjoining room conducting a conversation on her mobile. Yes we could hear every word. The lingering smell of burning fire logs was nauseating throughout. Wifi is non existent in the lodges - admittedly this may be a bonus for some.
Our room was cozy with everything we needed in it. The property was amazing with great trails and something for everyone. The only thing that was not great was our own fault, we forgot our personal pillows when we left. Great place to stay and we look forward to coming back in the spring!!
Really nice in the off season
I am not much for crowds, so visiting in the off season was wonderful. The staff was nice and helpful, the place in great shape, and we frequently had the fireplace and common rooms to ourselves. I highly recommend a weekend getaway here during the winter months. It is a wonderful, quiet world... and if it snows..... Fantastic!
Not worth the price - especially at the Overlook Lodge
Was just here for a wedding and I have to say that I am pretty disappointed with my stay. The bed itself was quite comfortable. the view outside my window was pretty nice too, but that's where everything really ends for me. My main gripe is just how far away Overlook Lodge is from Bear Mountain Inn (I wrote another review for that place, where the wedding took place). Every map they have makes it look like an easy walk on a trail, and don't get me wrong, 1 mile is not a hard walk for me at all. But believe me, it is from Overlook Lodge. You'll spend your first half mile walking down the road that takes you up from Bear Mountain Inn. When you finally get to the cottages you'll finally get a trail around the lake to take you to the Inn. The problem? Its not lighted ANYWHERE. You're walking in pitch black the entire time. Now this also wouldn't be an issue if there was a shuttle, but there isn't. A place that costs this much money per night to stay should easily be able to afford a shuttle to and from the main inn. almost all of Overlook Lodge was also booked by wedding guests and none of them had any idea what an inconvenience it would be, as everyone just assumed there had to be a shuttle to take you from point A to point B of THEIR lodging facilities. Also, where is the real value in the rooms? Besides comfortable beds and serviceable views, there isn't much. Wifi sucks there (I know, 2019 problems right? but don't advertise it if it doesn't work), the rooms are pretty old, and the walls are THIN. I could hear the kid across the hall from me screaming when I didn't have a fan on. Seriously, bring something that gives you white noise to drown out how thin these walls are. it's also insanely hot in the rooms. I saw other posts saying they were cold the entire time. Well, they fixed the heat to the point I had to put the AC on in the room to 62 degrees when it was 20 degrees outside because it was so damn hot in the lodge. Overall I had no choice but to stay there because of the wedding. I would never go back, and to be honest if you're just going for a day trip to go hike, go to the Catskill Mountains that are about 25-30 min further up the road.
